Help with 4ac PLEASE!! Wed, 31 July 2002 17:09 Go to next message
Hey guys,
I had my carby off the other day for cleaning as thing was covered in shyte, so i sprayed it with this carby cleaner stuff i got from Rocca Bros. Put it all back together plugged everything back in except the EGR vacuum hoses. figured this might help give some extra power, i am gettin a 20v for it but i still dont have enuff spare cash yet so any little bit helps. so basically my problem is this. it idles very very roughly have tried adjusting the idle speed thingy, big knob at the back of the carby to no avail even at 1000rpm the thing still idles like a truck very rough. also when driving on straight road say 80k/hr in 5th or 4th it splutters like its not getting any fuel for a split second i dunno its hard to explain but it wont cruise properly. Accelerating is fine tho no probs its just the idle and cruising where it spluters. idle sounds like splut splut splut ect
any ideas??? or should i just take it to ultra tune and say its shagged fix it please

Thanks for any help

Are you sure all the hoses are back in the right place? what did you do with the EGR vacuum lines? block them up?

I've taken all the extra crap off of my AE86 4AC,and haven't had any downsides, bar a slightly erratic choke operation. as long as the missing lines are plugged, and you have the few you need still hooked to the right places,it should be sweet.

Hey Justin
yeh im pretty sure all the hoses are back where they are supposed to be, as for the ones on the EGR i just took all the lines from the vacuum rail thing goin to the egr and the egr modulator off and they're just kinda suckin in fresh air?? not a good idea?? also i have a 9' chromie air cleaner on there with the breather hose goin into it, the pcv valve is just venting into the engine bay with the plastic regulator valve thingy, sorry i dont know the proper names of everything yet, that was connected to the old aircleaner. also there is a big diaphragm thing that was hanging off the driver side of the origanal air cleaner i think its the air induction system if i take it off then exhaust gases come out of a rubber hose and the engine wont idle, up and down ect. tried pluging it with a bolt but that made this splutering worse. im thinking about taking it to ultra tune but am worried they will give me a hard time for taking the anti polution stuff off and tell me thats why it doesnt run properly.
hmm should i just give up and put it all back to standard?? also this is the unleaded 1986 model engine if that makes any difference

having hoses hanging in the breeze and sucking false air is not a good thing.

I suggest you hook everything back up where it was,at least for the time being, and then have another look at it once it's running properly again.

Just thinking, could it have anything to do with the idle stop solenoid?? according to the Gregories corolla manual.
"When engine speed is above 2,290rpm and when the vehicle is decelerating or cruising the solenoid closes the idle fuel passage to prevent damage to the cat converter." Could there be something wrong with the solenoid or have i hooked up a wrong vacuum hose some where which is causing this problem??
