thats a load of crap...they need to be built with a box designed for that speaker, i.e you need that speaker's
specifications.
Also its something like - you dont put a speaker designed for a sealed box in a bass reflex box!
A specific box for their power. No such thing. Theres gotta be nothing special about it apart from its strenght. I've imported a 1500wRMS, 7400w peak 12" speaker from italy, ive built it to a design i did around that speakers specs, and ive also made it out of 25mm plywood - braced. If it doesnt sound good and stay together theres something seriously wrong.
Dont pay $500 for someone to build your box. Download the speakers specs and get a mate/ yourself to do it.

awesome,
but wont she pop and a bit??
not to say that ur amp isnt up to the job or anything..
i just heard that the best way to fry a sub was to UNDER power it,
i run an alpine Stype 12 inch, and i think its peak is like 700WATTS.
so i bought an amp that pushes just under 700 watts rms, and she works the part,

its all to do with the operator. You drive the amp too hard, you will distort its output, which will blow the speaker from receiving a square wave distorted power input.
My amp will be more than sufficient for my use of the sub, im not wanting to smash the supra's hatch anytime soon!

agreed,
and i mean its not like i push it flat out everwhere i go,
gets annoying watching ur rear view mirror vibrating,
but every now and then its fun to try and give the old people in the car next to you a heat attack!
but there is nothing like the sound of a sub thats not over powering, but more bass than 6X9s can give...

how much do you know about audio?
Peak power = 10db above normal factor.
So 700wrms,
3db = 1500wrms (program music power)
6db = 3000w
9db = 6000w
10db = about 7000w
make some logic seeing as i build speakers for a living?

ok here's the deal.
Get the specs.. and with them they should tell you the necessary type and volume of the box that is needed.
Then make a decision on which thickness of MDF you want to use and make it yourself. This way it can fit your car perfectly, be the exact correct dimensions and be just as quality build as anywhere... I have made lots of boxes myself. Easy as to make and 100% perfect.
