fuel guage problems

I was reading past posts regarding fuel guage misreadings and from what i can gather, the fuel sender seems to be the most obvious cause of this problem. My fuel guage is all over the place. How do I change the fuel sender? Where is it located? Second hand units carry no guarantee do they?
Cheers and congratulations on a fabulous technical forum site, one I am thankful to be a part of.

Fuel sender will be on fuel tank. Guarantees on 2nd hand units depends on where you buy it from.
