urget opionions. Mon, 05 January 2004 08:51 Go to next message
tonight i decide if i grab that m10 turbo i was speaking about earlier to replace my blown 3tgteu ct20, heres the rundown

compressor(.48) : 12 blade, 35mm inducer ( no idea on exducer )
turbine(.64) : 35mm(sounds stupidly small sif it was twin turbed or something engine it came off), internal wastegate

my ct20 is 37(10 blade) and 50mm respectivly.

the guy is making 119rwkw on a 4age bluetop (8.2 compression) @ 9.2psi and 112kw @ 6psi intercooled, which sounds like good figures.
Dyno graphs : http://www.garagedori.com/tech/4age_gd_dyno.html
(the 2nd one is this particular turbo, he refers to it as a t25), has anyone tried a ct20 on a 4age, that would probebly give a good idea a comparison

only thing that concerns me at this stage is the turbine, seeing as the ct20 was unable to control boost with a 3" exhuast and it has a FIFTY mm turbine and 20mm wastegate hole.

also if a 4age 1.6litre with 8.2 compression can throw out 119rwkw at 9psi surely the 3tgteu would throw out a good 120rwkw at that same boost too? 200 extra cc, albeit a little lower compression?

i think the exhust side is way too small for your 3T.

a quick scan of the current garret catalog shows the baby GT12 with a 35mm exhaust wheel diameter and those are aimed at 1.0 - 1.5 litre engines.

if you did use it, you'd spool up real quickly and then the exhaust housing would start to restrict flow before you got close to high revs (and horsepower)

if you had two of them it might be interesting but you'd then have major lag issues.

i think you need to look for a bigger turbo? or a re-built CT20 and an external wastegate.

charles.

the interesting thing is, these guys say that it doesnt lose any power or boost right upto 7000rpm in 3rd gear on a 4age turning out 119kw, a 4age putting out 119kw would shed just as much exhuast gases as the 3tgteu? or?

the other things is too the larger .63 A/R housing with the smaller turbine?

hmmm, wonder at what sorta rpm's it would becomne too restrictive.

and to clarify, the 35mm Exhuast turbine, is the outlet size, not the entire exhuast turbine, the ct20 is 50mm outlet size also, probebly 60mm totel size

Freak i have a friend that had a CT20 on his 4agze (8.1:1 c/r) based 4agte. the turbo went great until about 5000rpm and then choked itself.
it did rev to redline producing power on his first 4agte from a 4age (9.4:1 c/r) but i would say that was to do with the higher compression ratio.
he has a VG30 turbo now that allows him to rev to redline producing power.

OK. The A/R ratios you've quoted above show it to be a mixture of T25 and T28, and as such, not a good match for the 3TGTE. A T25 I have in the shed, has a compressor A/R of 0.48, and an exhaust A/R of 0.49. The T28 I have on my 3TGTE has a compressor A/R of 0.80 and an exhaust A/R 0.64, so if you do the math - you'll see the turbo you're looking at, has a T25 comp snail, and a T28 exhaust snail, be it either factory or modified. It's definately gonna run out of puff before you want it too!!! The only advantage to buying this turbo will be the fact that it will share the boltup pattern of something better suited (they'll all be T28 flanged).

wow, 112kw at about 1/2BAR boost sound spretty dismal actually...

a turbo to get an extra 12kw? you could do that with a cam.

That's 112kw at the wheels I assume. I'd like to see a stock 4A of any description put down 100kw at the wheels!

oops, my bad...

First off, a baseline, the bluetop 4AGE in my AA60, out of an AA63 Carina. It has trd headers, 2" exhaust with reso + muffler, no air filter.

got 85rwkw...
hmm 40% increase from 9psi...
fair nuff...

i see palchino(aw11 mr2, RWD i assume) was making 110 kw at the wheels with a CT20 Turbo(8psi). THis other dude is making 117rwkw at 9.2psi, bother unintercooled by the looks of things then this would suggest the m10 is flowing a little better?

I just want something to tie me over till a t28 or ~equivilent, as CLG said the flange will be the same, to cut a long story short, whats your guess, loss, same or gain? whats your thoughts on the 35mm exhuast outlet? also the t25 compressors are easily upgraded?
