retro fitting is fitting an older component into a newer car. IE, putting an 18rg into an RA60

Retrofitting is fitting something in retrospec, hence fitting air-con to a car where the original owner didn't click the air-con box Smile

Usually, when the Motor Industry people talk about Retrofitting with regard to A/C systems - they are talking about converting from the Old Gas ( R12 ) to the new gas ( R134A ).

retro fitting is when you fully service it. eg changing from r12 gas to r134a.
