5K and 2TG Information

Hey guys, I have a KE20 with what is apparently a "5K" (its stamped on the side) but I can't find any information on it and every time that I talk to someone from a parts place etc they always say there's no such thing or they talk about the 5K-U from the liteace.
Are they the same?
Also I am looking for 2TG information, since my brother has one for his corolla.
I have searched google, and have turned up very little on either.
I am also considering an engine swap to something a little more efficient.
I have thought about 4AGE's which I will start a new thread for.
If anyone has anything I will be grateful.
cheers
Dane

ke20 came out with 3k motors which are a 1.2 litre motor. the next size up is the 4k (1.3l) and then your motor the 5k which is a 1.5l. these were commonly found in vans like the liteace and therefore a more torquey motor then the latter motors. however they dont rev as well. they has been some sucess withg people turboing these motors
the 2tg and 4ag motors will give very similiar results in a older corolla. the 2tg is a much easier conversion then the 4ag as it motors straight in. i have driven both these motors and my personal perference is the 4ag as seems much more rev happy and a nicer ride. however both are a great improvement over the 5k

Hey I remember a couple of my mates getting hold of Jap import 5Ks in the late 80's to pop into their 3K and 4K powered Corollas. My memory from that long ago tells me that it was quite popular.

well, you could get the weber tuned for a start... they can get pretty good economy if tuned properly... or just get the 5K fuel injected. grab a 7KE manifold and a computer and away you go ![Very Happy](images/smiley_icons/icon_biggrin.gif)
without EFI, you'll be lucky to get below 10L/100kms... (at a guesstimate) or worse if you drive hard.

on my carby 2TG, if you keep the revs down, you can get quite good economy. It don't think it helps if the engine doesn't make power until 4500rpm, such as mine, and you have to flog it to get anywhere.

How much does a 2TG cost?
And how hard is it to put into a KE20?

If you want to put a 2tg in a KE20 you will have to get a Hydraulic clutch set up, custom engine mounts and a new sway bar made. I was fitting up my 2TG in my KE25 and i found the motor is about 70mm longer then the 5K and it would hit the sway bar. A T50 gearbox out of a TA22 bolted up and so did the tail shaft if you have a manual car. You will have to cut a new hole for the shifter. If i did not already have the 2TG i would of got a 4AGE and run it on twin carbies as the block of the 4AGE is the same as the 5K and it will clear the sway bar and the gear box will still bolt up. If you run a 4AGE with injection there is a lot more work but you will have a car that runs smother and gets much better fuel economy. The 2tg will be cheaper to get in and running but the 4GAE will be better set and will have more potential. either way it will be much better then the 3K or 5K.
