Anyone got suggestions for a pad upgrade for the jza70 ??
I do a bit of driving in the twisties and the big girl shows her size at the end of every straight, not to mention the choking fumes from the stock pads.
A guy I know once had his jza70 brakes catch fire in a quick run!! They REALLY punish brakes !
SO what brands are the best for the money, they have to last at least 7000 ks of mixed driving, not be too temperamental when cold and not cost the earth.
SO whats it gunna be greenstuff? pagid ? hawks ?
any suggestions ?

EBC green stuff pads are really nice. the cost, well you decide that, but normanlly about $220 upwards, of course it all depends on the particular car. thier bite is awesome due to their higher friction than other pads. they claim to be gentle on disc which is a bonus. they also say very little warm up, but next to nothing comparred with other pads. i notice a huge improvemet afte rone or two decent stops, or just general warm up in traffic driving. they go all the way to 650 degC which is about 200 higher than a stock pad. i reccomend them. i am using a set of Mitsubishi GTO EBC green stuff in my hilux calipers on my celica, and i love them.

I personally like Bendix, had bendix Premium pads and lasted about 12,000km and went through some hard braking and never experienced brake fade.
now i have the standard bendix pads and they have done about 4,000km and still have 80% left on them except they don't have as much stopping power as the premiums and suffer huge brake fade after 3 heavy stops.
but bendix premium is the way to go. thats what i think anyway.

Well I've found it not too hard to set Bendix standard + premium on fire in several different cars, would probably feel safer using cornflakes box to standard Personally I think greenstuff are a good bet, I've found they work well both cold and still seem to be capable of doing something after the disc is glowing quite brightly. When it gets to the glowing point they tend to smoke a bit, but don't seem to completely fail like some others.

don't bother with bendix..they only make standard ones for the supra anyway..if you want some to try I have some that I put in for 2 days and took back out again 'cause they sucked.. I like the green stuff for there price. Endless, Pagid etc are waay waay above the EBC ones

I'm actually using Bendix 4WD's on the Soarer, I have to say I haven't tried the premium's, as I was reccomended these in place
I recently to took a very quick trip down the Gilles range, (near cairns for anyone not knowing)a steep, twisty range and experienced only VERY minimal fade towards the end, but still worked superbly i say
If my rubber helf half as well I'd have been very pleased!

Pagid pads are very good, but not exactly cheap,or well suited to road use. treat them softly, and you'll be glazing discs.
race brakes australia make some decent stuff, which is quite well priced. I have used their comp3 and comp2 pads in the past, and was pretty happy with their performance, especially when they cost a quarter of what Pagids do,at $130 a pair.
something to check out maybe. they will make pads for anything if you can supply backing plates.

Would EBC reds be too "racy" for the road ??
the car is very heavy and gets used for fast road , but not really any track use.

The reds could be OK! If you read the speal about the greens it say something like "they are intended for compact sports cars" blah blah blah.. I'm imagining Corolla GT's etc.. I think I'd put reds in a supra if I owned one!! My 2c's

With the bendix metal kings it has in it now, after two hard stops they are shot. Choking brake fumes can be smelt for 1/2 and hour afterwards.
I wanna have pads that will stop if I trundle down the shops to get some groceries,
but will pull up over and over, when I stand on them tempting the ABS for a full 1/2 hour on the OPHWY.
When I drive slow, I DRIVE SLOW, but other wise they must perform.
Maybe I'll call racebrakes, greenstuff is 199$.

If they make Greenstuff for the JZA70, which they do, then you can be guaranteed that they will work as intended. I would go for Greenstuff if you want braking ability at any other time than when the discs are piping hot. I want to get some greenstuff for my MA70, but where is the cheapest?

Matt:
I just put new Brakes on the Corolla and it is so much better.
try: http://www.discpads.com For prices, I did slotted front rotors and bendix Premium on the front and still have my old Bendix Standards on the back, and they work quite well. Cost less than 300 bux to do it too !
Is much better than my old ones. I got home from a hard run once, smelt them (my old ones) and the disc was blue !
