Yes ... I believe they are the same ... Lotus actually dug into the Toyota spare parts bin.
It has been discussed before on the Club4AG forums. Do a search there and you will find your answer.

Didnt Lotus actually design the MkII Supra, or have a hand in it?

lotus designed the suspension
mk2 lights are not the same, similar tho
they are squarer and are in slighty different light arrangement

Actually there is an older Lotus (forget what it's called) which has the MkII Supra tail lights and also door handles, alloy wheels, and various other Toyota parts. I saw one at a car show once and spotted the Supra bits straight away!
Apparently Toyota was a major shareholder in Lotus in the 80's, hence the sharing of parts and knowledge.

rumour has it that the 4age was a joint venture between toyota and lotus.
The motor was meant to be for a light weight economy model.
Lotus pulled out, and Toyota continued..
but then again, that is just an ae86 urban myth 
rock on.

the 4age engine is a direct copy of a ford bda cosworth engine produced in the early 70s for escorts in motorsport the japs bought blue prints in the 70s of ford as they chose not to run with this engine put to develop the pinto engine instead. Toyota striped the plans rebuilt the engine adding fuel injection and released it in 1983 as the 4age the ford engine back then produced 108bhp back in 1972 and reved to 7300rpms.....scarey back in those times!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes they are the same lights, Ive seen one up close and tail lights actually are branded Toyota.

wasnt the elise were released with a tuned 2ZZ-GE in the states.
i also thought the original elise was based on the SW20 floorplan, but i havent found any info on it.

The new ones now feature the 2ZZ-GE I think. I remember hearing something about that in one of the Jeremy Clarkson movies.
