hey guys,
i am getting my flywheel lightened and my cams ground mildly in my 2tg celica. i rang up for prices today and they told me the following: $150 for flywheel lightened and balanced, and $150 for each cam. i was wondering if these prices are allright?
thanks

standard cast flywheels dont like ebing lightened tyoo much - as the outer casting is waht gives them most of their strength.
If you've ever seen the results of a flywheel falling apart, you'll never get anything but a custom made lightweight

so is the standard one not worth doing? i was talking to scott on yahoo classic celica and he has lightened the stock one without trouble..? i dunno, is it definately unsuitable(or at least not optimal) or could it be made of a stronger material?

depends how you treat your car, how much you're taking off, and what mods are done to the engine
if it's a reasonably standard 2t-g, I'd say it'd be fairly safe to trim the flywheel

i have aset of cams you can have for 200 and they have been hard faced thats cheaper than getting yours done as if they just grinding yours you will have to get bigger shims as they take metal off the base circle ring me on 0412 045 467 glenn

mine were welded up on the lobes they call this hard facing then they grind it back and take away may be 20 thou off the base circle ,if you get yours grinded they take off heaps base circle that is you might need shims 4mm thick
my cams are 290 degress duration 410 thou lift

um, well i can get them done for 150 through this guy, however, thats without the shims and they aren't hardfaced. so i dunno...yours a 290 degrees right? so thats getting close to a proper race cam, i was more after a mild one, round 270. with the 290s is drivability really decreased? would i have to upgrade everything to meet the cams? i was hoping to keep it all relatively mild....just increase the performance nicely without going full blown. hit me back with some info glenn, thanks dude
