Fuel tank pickup

I have just changed my fuel line on my ta22 from 6.5mm to 8mm line.
I am having problems changing the fuel pickup line (the first part of the fuel line that screws into tank) as the hole into the tank is only 6.5mm.
What has any else done??

Either use a step down, or run a surge tank to minimise the difference, as I assume you've gone to an efi motor?

Cut off a square section around the screw in fittings and thrown the whole lot (pick-up and return pipes) into the bin. Welded in a pick-up and return assembly from a GX61 Mark II/Chaser/Soarer/Cressida etc, which has a 12mm pick-up line and a 8mm return line. You will need to find a compatible pick-up assembly for the pipe size you have, or better still, fit an external fuel pump with a 12mm inlet and a 8mm outlet, in between your 8mm pipe and tank.
Cheers,
Mitch.

I recommend and use IHF in Kewdale Road, Welshpool, or you could also try Pirtek, Enzed, or I have also bought them from Auto One (I also recommend Midland Auto One thoroughly!)

No, not really - that's the joy of using a surge tank. My surge tank utilises a 1/4" from the lifter pump for no restriction, a 1/2" to the EFI pump for no restriction, a 1/4" for fuel rail return for no restriction, and a 1/4" outlet for no restriction. I have also replaced the fuel feed line to the engine bay with a new 5/16" bundy tube line, and don't use step downs at all. Care must be taken when bending new fuel lines, not to kink them, for not only does it reduce the ID, it will also create a wear point over time, reducing the wall thickness until it starts leaking!
