dying carpets

the black carpets for my supra are a bit faded (as 20 year old carpets tend to be) and I'm wondering if any of you guys can recommend a good way to dye them, and what dye to use. Most of the dyes I've found require you to soak the "clothes" in a bucket of water/dye for x minutes - which is not really possible with the carpets.

Just buy some new ones. Back carpets are generally a bit cheaper than fronts, but if you are going to rip out the interior to do it, you might as well do both.

If your too much of a tightass to buy new carpets there is still the dye option. VHT make really good spray cans of upholstery dye. I used a black can to dye my crappy blue leather steering wheel and it worked a treat. Even on a highly contacted surface like the wheel none has come off on my hands.
Worth a look.

if you haven't heard about the Knox boys 'special' shows of affection, you dont want to.
and yes, I'm a tight-arse, as the carpets are in really good condition, just a little faded.

I got really dodgy in one of my corollas and just used normal black spray paint worked ok for a quick sale to tidy it up.
The amount of time that you will spend dying or painting and re-painting (because it will wear off) surley will justify saving your pocket money for new carpets.

$380 supply and fit for the carpets
apparently it's an import only piece (ie, toyota australia doesn't stock them), so they have to be custom made.

speaking of carpets, what's that cottony crap underneath the carpets and back seats for?
is that purely for noise insulation, or does it serve some other purpose?

If you have no luck, perhaps try "Exact-Fit Moulded Auto Carpets" in Adelaide. Ph (08) 8337 6000. Top blokes who won't rip you off. Whether or not they have your car will depend on if they've moulded one before, but they do a top-notch job.

Loop pile is gay and cheap, and it looks gay and cheap.
Get at least plush, if not super plush.

The under carpet stuff is there for road noise insulation AND heat insulation. You tunnel will radiate heat without it.
Also helps the puffy carpet feel of the super-plush-cut-loop-pile whatever carpet
I recommend using it but I don't think this is moulded like the carpet so you may be able to get it cheaper from a carpet place.
