Whoops - now I'm screwed

Okey dokey, what started off as a simple job has now become another problem that I'm stuck on.
I am in the process of installing a CD player for my car (ST162) with some new speakers. Now this CD player was already in there, but the wiring job was shoddy and I wanted to pull some crap out in order to tidy things up.
Now I've got a slight problem, the wires to the tape player are now dangling about the place and I have no idea which way they go into the little connector thing at the back of the tape player there are nine wires and nine places in the connector but of course, I haven't a clue which way they go. I have a wiring diagram, but I can't figure out too much. I can tell what each wire is for (mostly) due to the colour and how they match up to the wiring diagram.
There are numbers above some of the lines for wires on the wiring diagram where they meet something like the tape player that I hope mean something...they are like 4/10 or 1/6 etc etc does anyone know what these numbers mean...and do I have any hope of being able to figure this one out?

yeah buddy the radio on the sleekers had two sets of wires with plugs if I am not mistaken.
they contain the wires for the rear aerial (sp?), speakers, battery power, acc, earth etc. These two groupings come off the 'loom' on your dash quite visibly. If you cut the plugs of you will still be able to see the 'group' off the loom. The wires are generally green, purple, yellow and blue groupings (ie, a purple one and a purple one with a white stripe etc..) Speaker pairings are quite obvious if I remember.
you can easily test to see if they hook up to a speaker using a voltmeter (which you need for a job like this)
you can also test for the power and the accesories and earth using the voltmeter.
Once you figure out which 'grouping' of wires you have, you can be pretty confident that similar colour pairs go to the various speakers in your car.
You will have to just make your way around with a voltmeter and it won't take you more than 1/2 hour to figure out. But test well to make sure you are using the correct wire, or else your back lights won't work or worse toyotas, what can you do...
Does this help at all??? Good luck dude..

what he said, to test which wire is for + and - for the speakers, get a AA batery and put it on the wires, the speaker will pop OUT if the + is on the + and - on the -, if it goes down, its the wrong way around

The problem is the other end at the tape player...

well, that's a slightly bigger problem
search the net for a pin-out diagram?

oh, your problem is with the tape player, not the loom? you don't know which wires are which on the tape player? you have NO documentation at all?? that is bad...
well, power up your tape player and test the outputs.. speakers will run at about 5-6 volts yeah???
the power should be obvious (red), earth (green or black?) and a remote/acc?? well, take a punt if you have no idea. (perhaps yellow - I can't remember) if it needs it
you should be able to see these at least on your diagram.. if there isn't a sticker on your tape player... But if you get the power on you will be able to test them anyway.
You *may* be able to power it up without wiring an earth if you just have it toughing the metal frame where it mounts, sometime they earth through that also..
If You start a fire or blow the player, don't sue me pleeeeze... these are just my thoughts off the top of my head.. I would try and power it up, and then run all my tests.

http://carstereohelp.net/index.htm
look for your car (I didn't have a look, but hopefully its there)
hope it helps, ciao.
now days and time not too distant ago.
red remote turn on
yellow constant power
black earth.
But as for car companies as you see on the site, they play with all colors.

OK, Looking at the wiring Diagram - the Numbers I think you are refering to are the ones above boxes with alpha (H1) etc.
The boxes relate to the connectors on the right and the numbers above refer to the Pin position in that connector.
When looking at a connector you will have a Male or a Female connector ( Pin or Socket ) remember Female is always right so count Left to right - Male is always wrong so count Right to left .

What brand head unit do you have there, I have seen a few and the maker usually use the same plugs and pin out layout. I have a kenwood and a pioneer laying around, it may be a start.

Well it's just the standard unit that is the problem...I need to hook up the power antenna wires and obviously the earth and 12V wire.

you can test the power antenna wires by just running some old cable from the battery to the antenna and seeing which ones make it go up and down
That is what I did. I think they were pink and green?

I installed some Pioneer speakers into my car 2 weeks back, similar problem, the existing speakers were installed pretty shoddily, so I pulled all the old wiring through and pulled through all my nice new wire. Went to start my car, it didn't start Turns out that the wiring was so tight(the cables were only only long enough) ended up pulling the plug on my fuel pump took about 30 mins to figure that out finding all the wires that fell down behind things, also had a bad earth, what i planned to take an hour took a few more, but I sorted out all sorts of niggling problems, car runs sweet now. So it was the best speaker installation ever Sorry doesn't really help you, but I thought it was kinda on topic, beware before you pull your wires through!

You could alway re-install all the original plugs, and buy a wiring harness (u can buy them from supercheap auto), which will adapt from the toyota standard connector, to the ISO one on your headunit. (i did this on my head unit and it worked brilliantly). Just make sure you get the one for your model Celica as the can somes vary
