R12 air conditioning gas has been banned for a few years now, as you know. One suggestion might be to get on the good books of a wrecker that will let you know when he wrecks a car with the R12 gas. The local mobile air cond guy might be nice enough to go there, extract the gas and re-charge yours.

That would be the only way I would know of to get it. I think all the R12 people 'stockpiled' would be all gone by now.

Failing that, what is the conversion to R134a worth? I was told that it is less than $400, however I do not know.

I know this is a old post, but i found out something that you guys would be interested to know. Yesterday my mechanic said the old gas to new gas conversion is all BULLSHIT!!, its just another way for the companies to make money. I have the old gas in my car, and all he did was let it out and put in the new gas like you would always do for refilling airconditioners, now the aircon is so cold i freeze if its on full hehe, and all for $70.

That's interesting. I asked an auto elec a while ago what they did to "convert" to new gas and i cant remember exactly what he said. New filter type, something something, but no it didn't sound like that much.
