Total Newbie: Q&A on 1JZGTE Fri, 09 January 2004 07:18 Go to next message
Hey friends,

I come from the land of SR20 and am buying a car with a 1JZGTE.

Can you please offer me any info and advice on these engines?

Specs, power output, turbos, best aftermarket parts (turbos esp)

I know not much about these engines and would appreciate a hand.

Thanks

~280bhp@6200rpm, 270lb-ft@4800rpm

it's a 2.5 non-sequential twin turbo, revs happily to 7000+rpm. depending on what generation 1jz you have, the stock turbos can be good for up to ~16psi.

On the standard turbos and injectors, the 1jz can make around 230RWKW (some claim 250rwkw). If you want more power than that, it's time for new injectors, new turbos, new fuel pump, and a new ECU.

that 'some' wouldn't happen to be a certain journo for Z-Z-ZOOM would it? Laughing
they are a very strong, well built engine. the heads are made by Yamaha and some people reckon they flow poorly - but these people are generally into nissans. the 1JZ can comfortably support 500hp on the std internals with the right tuning - and you don't see too many 500hp stock-internals RB25s do you? mind you, the std turbos will have run out of steam at around 320.
peopel will try and sell you all kinds of kits for the 1JZ, but i'm yet to find a turbo that will better the GT35R - 700hp worth of airflow, and sitting on the lazy side of it's compressor map island at 1.2bar on a 1JZ.
from memory 2JZGTE injectors are a great upgrade, or you can pick up aftermarket ones from any brand in any size.
stock auto will prob let go after a decent power hike (like anything over 200rwkw).

other than that, the only other thing i can think of is swap the auto for a manual. it's a whole new engine to drive with.

You're probably looking at about 200hp unless the cars has been tuned for those injectors!!

7M is correct. Replace the 440's with the stock injectors otherwise it will overfuel, the car will feel doughy and you'll LOSE overall power.

ummm you'd assume it has the supporting mods such as 2j map or fuel controller considering its also got upgraded intercooler and fuel pump.

Drift, i def wouldnt rip the injectors out, if it hasn't got the supporting mods such as map or safc then fit them, its a much easier and better option than taking the manifold off.
