5ME Oil Change - 3L ? Fri, 09 January 2004 07:42 Go to next message
Just changed the oil on the 5me, no new filter

Only 3L has drained out,

got impatient, and chucked a fresh 5L in.
now i have to drain some of it dammit.

manual and websites state capacity as 5.1L with filter
no obviously the filter wont hold 2.1L
where is the other oil.
it wasn't running dry at all either?
i let it drain till it almost stopped dripping...

The other oil has burnt, or gone out the exhaust
I've drained my 6m before, and only got 3L out of it

Have you ever heard of a dipstick? Razz I've never measured the amount of oil going into my engine, I just pour oil until the dipstick says it's full!

i used to throw in a complete bottle of hpr40 into my 5me...was a little overful, but a good indication of how much it used...also used the larger genuine toyota filters.
Allan...5me's dont use z9's!

p.s a toyota filter is like $25 - spend the extra $15 and get a decent one that'll work better and run your oil cleaner and longer

the one i got from bloody supercheaps catalogue were something far smaller than a z9...a z131 "maybe"
but nowhere near as big as a z9....i remember commenting on how big the toyota one was compared to the ryco!

Well both my manuals (the cars and the Hynes) say 4.6L for a drain and refill (do MX62's have the same sump as MA61, I thought so?).

Cheers
