Well ... the fact that it's a disc rear end proves that it's certainly not the stock Aussie diff ...

If it's got genuine disc brakes then they'll be absolutely tiny

I checked the diff and it has 10 bolts.
From what I have heard there are two different types of jap rear ends.
Is there anyway to tell them apart without having to take them apart?
If I open it up how to tell the difference between a LSD diff and non LSD diff?
How hard is it to pull a diff apart?
Cheers

Easy to pull the diff out.
1. Pull the axles out an inch or two (may require an axle puller)
2. Remove tailshaft.
3. Remove those 10 bolts.
4. Diff drops on your head.

Can anyone give me pictures of what a open diff and a LSD looks like with the diff housing off?
I have a feeling I have a LSD in it already but its in need of a rebuild.
Who is good and reliable that can rebuild a LSD in Sydney?
Cheers
Andrew

look in the filler hole with a flashlight/torch.
rotate, and if you can see spider gears, then you do not have an LSD.

OK I opened the filler hole on my diff and looked inside. What I wanted to know is what does a spider look like and what a LSD is suppose to look like.

If you can see a cluster of little gears right in the middle (spider gears), that's an open diff. If you just see a big metal can in the middle, that's an LSD.

I saw a big can thing and when I turn the wheel it has two holes that I can see further into the diff. Im not sure if I explained that properly.
So is that a LSD or open diff?
