Summernats anyone??

How many people went this year?
I say bluewire's celica, when I saw the pics on the net I didn't think much of it but seeing it at the nats, it is amazing. really A1 job.
There was a blue ra23 with a 1JZ and a white, original ra35 GT from the states I think.
There was also a silver ra23 cruising and in the burnouts, I didn't get a close look but it was turbo I think. It did a pretty good burnout but died on the pad and was pushed off. Come to think of it, it made the same sound my 1GGTE made when it decided never to start again. Hope he has better luck than me.
The unwashed masses booed the celica though, didn't use enough fuel apparently.
I got hunderds of photo's if anyone's interested.
Tim.

Funny, I didn't get any pics in the engine bay of the 1jZ 23, I got one with the bonnet down, at the show 'n' shine, then found it later with the bonnet up and had a look, I was holding the camera, and admiring great conversion, but for some reason didn't take any pics.
I don't know what came over me.
I'll email you the pic of the exterior if you want.

Hi all,
I was there in my metallic green KE25 Corolla (with 4AGTE) I just did the driving events (good fun if anyone is thinking of doing them, but be prepared to sit in lines waiting for hours on end). I asked the guy with the silver TA celica just before he went onto the burnout pad what he had in it and he said it was a supercharged ZE engine, I then confirmed it was a 4AGZE with him (not a 1GGZE).
I left after his car finished, it takes some balls to get out there in front of that crowd and do a burnout in a 4 or rotor!
I know that when I drove into the ground at about 5pm on Saturday (I went home at lunch time and returned at 5pm) I was greeted by 100's of drunken nobs some of which yelled such educated things at my car as "f%$k off rotor", "rotary heap of sh#t" etc etc. Even though my car is a toyota (with badges!!) has a toyota power plant and sounds nothing like a rotor (some of the real smart people out there assume anything smaller than a torana has to be a rotor).
They mob your car and may or may not damage it if you don't do a burnout (many cars were damaged from people pushing on them etc). I was over these wankers after only driving about 50 metres inside the gates (and I drove away from the main crowd after I entered the gates just to try and park my car somewhere safe!!) I just decided a big high boosting burnout (give them what they want so they leave you alone followed by the innevitable traction and launch (when you don't back off) would clear the road ahead, it worked
Overall people were great I had a lot of positive comment and heaps of people taking photos, asking questions etc, it was only Saturday night when the dip shit crew were over-running the place it got a bit wrong. I am all for people getting stuck into what ever they want, but damaging someones pride and joy just because its not your flavour of car is pretty wrong.
Cheers.

ive heard alot of bad stories about summernats from a friend of mine who has gone up in V8 classics before ..
he owns a super rare 50's pontiac Starchief ( only 3 in oz ) and was the original builder of my ta22. he refuses EVER to take a good car to the event because of the following:
He and his mates took a falcon coupe up one year - only to hear nightmares of drunken yobbo's with supersoakers filled with thinners lurking in the masses ...
As far as i know he saw the results of one of the dickheads doing this to a car ..
Not good for a car that had multiple thousands spent on paint alone ..
To me car shows like that are an excuse for bogans to get together and act like fucknuts - instead of truely appreciating the cars on show ..
Im glad the toyota nats are much more respectable

Yep, went last year (as a spectator) and decided not to bother this year...I'd be paranoid taking the Cressida (and it actually has a V8 in it! ), even though I haven't done anywhere near the stuff some of these guys have done to their cars. The reality is that there are too many drunken have-nots there, willing to f*&k with someone's pride and joy, just because they don't have one/like it/*insert other "appropriate" excuse here*.
/end rant
Think I'll wait for the Toyota Nats, where vehicles like ours can be appreciated, by like-minded people, in the right spirit...

I went for the first time... Awesome weather. Saw heaps of Toyota mini trucks... not a whole lot of other Toyotas on the whole though .
I agree about the fuckhead comments... Some bogan arseholes beat the shit out of some guy and as he was stumbling around bleeding ran into me and fucken' knocked me over.
As we were watching the pussy show on Saturday night there was another fight right next to me and my mates. I saw another fight in the arena as well. What is it with bogan retards and fights.

Yea I went to the summernats on the Saturday, wasnt too bad except wasnt expecting so many V8's, thought there would be a little more variety.
Saw the bluewire Celica (looks great in the flesh) a silver (think TA22 with plates SIKTOY) a nice blue RA23/TA23 with a big front mount (what did this have in it?) and a white original looking liftback.
All in all it was a good day but I agree that there were many bogans around. Even after the event in town (Civic) a dude tried to fight my brother (lucky my brother is big and he beat him) but it just showed for me that I wouldnt take my celica there as for the lack of respect of the cars shown and also the complete morons there that would have nothin better to do than wreck anothers car.
But as I mentioned before it was still a great car show and I had a good time.
Will have to attend Toyota Nats when it comes around. Where abouts is this held and on roughly what dates?

I've heard similar story's about summernats over the years and seems it has not gotten any better. i must admit the thought of a 4 or rotary even entering summernats 10 years ago was asking for trouble.
almost went this year, trying to persuade dad into taking his 64 ford galaxy up, as the car was grand champion in 1994, we might have gotten in for free!

Congrats to Bluewire on your excellent placings and on making it into the supercruise, well done.
I will enter the driving events again next year, but like this year I will be leaving the car at home after dark.
Cheers.

Congrats to Bluewire with your places and thanks for those springs!
I was talking to the guy with the 4agze 22 "Sik Toy or Sly Toy"
and he was saying the the blue 23 with the 1jz was really a 2jz stroked down to 2.4L can anyone confirm?

I gather the Blue 1J RA23 you guys are talking about isn't the Canberra one owned by Chuck from the Canberra Celica Group?? If it is Chuck's one then its a late model single turbo 1J, not "de-stroked" 2J.
Sorry but I didn't see the car there so I don't know if it was Charles' one or not.
Good to see a few toyotas turned out anyways.
I saw:
SLYTOY silver celica, the blue RA23 (from a distance), Steve mint RA35(??) celica, a black KE20 (13B), a gold KE20, a blue KE20 (SR20DET), a grey KE70, 4 or 5 hiluxes, 4 or 5 KE30-KE55 model corollas, with engines ranging from rotors to v8's.
I am sure there were more too.

I don't believe it was chuck, from what I was told by SlyToy the blue 23 inquestion was from syndey, If I remember properly he was running 11's or 12's before it was destroked and is hoping to make more power now, can someone explain this?

Interesting, perhaps some of the 1J/2J crowd might enlighten us on the merits of destroking a 2J. You obviously lose capacity, does it increase the potential rpm limit? (I wouldn't have thought so though, or that much gain would be had). Who knows, sounds like something different.
Didn't think it was Chuck's one as I am pretty sure I saw this one being trailered in at scrutineering.

Hey the pics are up on lucid's space, not too many, I picked the best ones, also they are only 640X480, if anyone want's anything in a bigger size then let me know.
I used some crappy image conversion I got from download.com, that's why there's the icon in the upper right corner of all the pics. What programs do other people use for mass image conversion?
