what sort of welder would one require to perform a cut and shut job on a fwd 100kw 4age intake man to make it suit rwd?

TIG.
it's alum/alloy, so you'll need a more precise heat for the weld which only TIG can offer.
from memory the range is 650 - 680 degC

because it's aluminium, you will be best off using a TIG welder.
aluminium welding is always a bit of a bugger, and experienced hands will always do a better job....

TIG would be easiest if you can use 1.
otherwise i go for oxy next & then MIG.
