Oil vs Water temperature

Which would you consider more useful?
Most people seem to buy a water temperature gauge, regarding an oil temperature as a bit extreme.
On the other hand, the stock cluster already has a (rather inacurate) water temp, and also the oil temperature would be a clearer indication as to how hot the engine is actually running.
The gauges appear to be about the same price, and I have the option to buy either...
Hmm...
What are your opinions?

well, the way i see it, your water is cooling your oil, as the oil will be at a higher temp.
you need a water temp gauge to stop the water from boiling.
you need an oil temp gauge to stop the engine from running too hot.
if you are going to run yur car hard, the oil temp will (prolly) rise faster than water temp. and when the oil gets too hot, the bearign oil film can break down....
oil.
