How about 84 model Toyota Tercel SR5 340,000k's

- Engine conversion from 3A-C to recon 4A-C (was 1500cc now 1600cc) done 40,000 ago
- Engine has typical old 4 cyc mods like GT40r coil etc.
- Holley 5200 series 32/36 carby
- Custom built extractors into 2inch into lukey into 4 inch tip
- Lowered and 15inch wheels with new tyres
- Fresh paint and no Rust
- Good interior and 1986 model front and rear bumper
- Spare car, 1986(ULP model) Model minus front and rear bar with 220,000 on the clock but some rust.
- JVC LCD MP3 head unit, pionneer speakers all round + additional tweaters, Kicker sub and sub amp, rockford fosgate speaker amp.
- Rhino GTR car alarm, remote central locking

Car runs well, looks different. Sounds a bit like a WRX (with an aftermarket exhaust) without the turbo noise (due to the extractor setup).

But I ain't selling it......hehehehehe

My plan is to see how long the gear box will hold up, I want to make it to 400,000k's

O yeah they called them a tercel from around 82 to 85, then a Corolla Tercel, then they changed them (EFI new shape) and called them a Corolla 4WD. Pretty sure that is ok, depends on if you get your info from the states (USA) or not as they had them called all sorts of things

The latest picture of it is attached bellow.

i have heard the line "... the most effort anyone has ever done to a Tercel is actually drag it to the dump instead of leaving it in the backyard to rust ..... you on the other hand".

What can I say, I like to be different.

Who wants to be a common hore driving red neck anyway?

sorry to hijack thread but.... I like to talk about my tercel...hehehe

4A-C conversion was not hard at all, was from a FWD AE82 (pretty sure), Changed sump, used orginial manifolds etc.

Paid $2000 for the car after it made a Monaro out of a standard Commodore (Commodore could not drive away the rear end was so stuffed). Not too much damage to the old Tercel though.

$2000 was car, with parts to put front end back together.
- New shocks all round
- 4A-C engine ready to go in (3A was on last legs)
- New clutch, machined flywheel
- New radiator and battery.

Unsure of cost all up, exhaust, holley, mags, stereo etc etc and eveything else I had done to it.

Brought another one as spare parts with less K's (but a bit of rust) and took bumpers off as they where better than the ones I had.

Than respray to 2 pack De Beer (clear Commodore side indicators of course).

Parts are not cheap, front indicator $88 geniune from Toyota got to come from Japan no aftermarket unless you make an aftermarket AE82 one fit. Know a guy who blew his windscreen/overflow tank apart with a pressure blaster (cleaning under bonnett) geniune Toyota if you want one $550 got to come from Japan.

If I was going to spend the $$ for EFI I probably would not waste money on an FE and go straight for a GE. Then while you are at it, go a GZE. Then you blow the box, hahahe,

Then engine is also convensionally mounted, so the normal case of FWD engine into RWD would occur (same as a AE86 unless you could get an AE86 4A-GE to start with).

Maybe if I keep it might go a GE. But would need all new exhaust again as the 4A-C SOHC non cross flow has exhaust on drivers side and the DOHC cross flow exhaust (FE's and GE's) is on the passenger side.

But since dollars have been spent on doing the 4A-C there is only so much you can spend on a Tercel before you say enough. Does not matter how much you polish a turd it is still a piece of shit. Save for a house instead, then use equity from house to purchase import when old enough to insure one Smile.

A bright green Tercel with 4A-GZE (turboed minus the Z) would make a good show car though, with nice big wheels in those nice big gaurds. Plenty of room in the boot for plenty of stereo.

The Tercel has its engine mounted conventionally (normal RWD way even though the Tercel is a FWD/4WD). AE82's are tranversley mounted (normal way for a FWD).

Putting an AE82 4AGE into a Tercel would envolve either getting a RWD inlet manifold (off a genuine GE RWD not many) as the FWD off the AE82 would point into the fire wall, or get it cut and shut the other way. Then run a new exhaust on the passenger side as the Tercel runs on the drivers side. (plus other things, probably sump etc).

However cause any 4AGE out of an AE86 would be setup for convetional mounting it would be the easiest to go in cause the throttle body would not point into the firewall.

Sort of get what I am saying?

If you can get an AE82 GE cheap enough than go for it and get the manifold modded to fit, fit an electric fuel pump etc etc. Look for a 4A-C to 4A-GE or GZE guide on how to swap an Aussy AE86 4A-C to a 4A-GE from a front wheel drive.

That would be the best guide

ah.. i understand now, so its gotta be a rwd setup, so a 4ac would be the deal, my friend has a 4ac in his sprinter and it sounds like a mean mother Evil or Very Mad but i wonder how does it go?

Re: wanted > corolla 4wd Sun, 18 January 2004 02:27 Go to previous messageGo to next message
there is a toymods article on FWD GE into RWD

http://www.toymods.org.au/FWD_To_RWD_4A-GE/

anyway, if now days I was going to put effort in for an engine swap I would probably go the GE.

If you want to make the 4A-C go any better you need to make it flow better, that is going to require maybe some head work, port matching, extractors and a bigger carby to take advantage of it. But like anyone ever does that, I only went extractors and bigger carby. Now I need an electric fuel pump to stop it running out of juice as the mechanical one aint up to the task.

So basically the money you might spend to make a 4A-C go better, is better off going to swapping over to a 4A-GE if you can. I really don't know how hard it would be. But the articles about putting a FWD into a RWD car don't make it out to be too hard, but $120 for a RWD inlet manifold.

o, how does it go. Ok for a heavy bitch with an NA carby 1600 in it with the most inefficient power transfer system the toyota ever design. Smile

To start with I was a bit pissed with performance. But when I actually got the carby right it would beat a mates gemini 1600 that had stock carby but extractors and exhaust. Now he has a 2L that was rebuilt form the ground up (all balanced and $$ pistons etc and big carby) and shit it shits all over me.

Stock the 4A-C makes around 56kw at the fly and no never been on a dyno, think I would cry...

Might get a backyard port and manifold job done on it one day, see when I can have it off the road for an extended period of time.

think it is around 1300kg, maybe more. But if you compare that to the AE82 of similar and it is a bit heavier.

4A-FE from what I have heard works fine in the Corolla 4WD, it makes the car accelerate foward to the speed limit just fine. It is just how fast you want to get to the speed limit Smile
