hey guys, just reading through the members rides and saw someone who had '2Xsimota ram pods' fitted, i think it was, i was wondering what the purpose of these are?
also, what is the purpose of an air/oil seperator? what effect do both of these mods have?

2 air filters for 2 turbos or throttle bodies i would think.
I think it would increase the intake air flow but i doubt there would be a huge improvement.
Can't remember about the air/oil seperator so won't comment

short version: pressure in the crank case caused by charged gases passing the piston rings is recirculated into the inlet to reduce emissions. this carries with it oil, so the purpose of the oil/air seperator is to remove the oil before recirculating the gasses back into the inlet, or as some ppl do just vent to atmosphere.

hey I have been wondering about just undoing mine and poking it toward the ground. Do you get a little performance increase as there is less oil going through your plenum etc.?
Is a separater hard to install? But essentially I want to know if I can unplug it from my intake pipe..

Basically what the oil vapour does when re-entered into the inlet is reduce the octane of the fuel slightly and make the intake pipes dirty. By fitting a separator, basically a sealed container with a filter on it, you release the oil vapour from the crank case but eliminate the two problems as described above.

so is the performance increase noticable? or is more for just servicing issues?

I doubt you'd notice the performance increase, but I can only envisage good things by not polluting your intake and combustion chambers with more contaminants.

yeah, after seeing the crap in my intake pipe + behind throttle butterfly I hate to think what it looks like all the way down the throttle body (used some carby clean today to try and fix it up a little)
well time to say goodbye to my PCV pipe! Just direct it toward the ground you reckon?
I wonder if the computer will get angry. Probably not.. I can't imagine why..

right, how exactly do you set a proper one up? is an oil/air seperator an actual part you fit? ie. would autobhan stock them? if so, they hard to install?

autobahn were selling a $99 can recently - can with view line and two ports - i can't remember if there was a breather on top
i don't think you'll get much oil contamination via your PCV unless:
you're running a turbo and give a decent work out often
your rings are stuffed and are getting massive blowby past the ring
should be a walk-over to install one if you have the room under the bonnet - you might have to replace or get new lines to run from the breather and PCV port to the catch-can.
query: do some older engines use PCV oil-fumes to assist with lubrication the lower valve stem and top piston ring? probably a furphy??
RobST162: the computer won't miss PCV fumes as it's after the AFM. But you might want to feed the fumes thru a catcher of some sort to prevent oil spray/spatter - and reduce oil-odours when halting after a strong run...

hey man thanks! Yeah my rings are a little tired so I think that is why I get some oil coming out through the PCV and some contamination in my pipe attached to my throttle body. Like you can see oil buildup in there... but how often do I clean it? just about never..
Yeah.. $99 is pretty stiff for a catcher, but well worth it I feel. Autobarn here I come! Thanks chuckster!

like i mentioned in one of the other threads, a shiny pimpin oil catch can may look nice, but you can get exactly the same effect by buying a carbi fuel filter (such as a z14 which i think is for a 351 cleveland) and clamping it up in line with the pcv. ive seen this on quite a few cars and it seems to work fine
all for the pimpin sum of $12
