De-chipping Jap-spec GT-Four ECU Wed, 14 January 2004 06:26 Go to next message
My front-cut came with a Blitz-chipped "stock" ECU, called an Access ECU. It has "Access" stickers on all sides. I found out on the blitz.co.jp site that there's a .PDF file about the Access-chippped ECU's, but I don't have the required multi-lingual support necessary to translate Jap characters to english.

I noticed that this engine had been tuned to run VERY lean, most likely on Japan fuels which are about the equivalent of our Av-Gas (104 - 108 octane). The ECU would still be tuned to run this mixture, even though the highest fuel octane I'd take it to is 98. Does anyone know a way to de-chip the ECU so it has stock settings again and not the Blitz "Access" setup instead?

All help appreciated. Cheers. Wink

You're probably going to have to take the ECU / car to a Blitz dealer to have it remapped.

Maybe you could ask the Australian distributor to send you a copy of the manual.

it cost a fair bit to chip an ecu
so i would recon its even harder to de chip it

best of lookin for another std 2nd hand ecu

might cost around 250 bucks not to sure

but ring around

its cheaper than say maybe 500 to 700 for dechippin if they can do it

u would easily save 250 bucks in fuel bills over 2 or 3 yrs

either that or save up for another " replacement " or ecu setup ..

Blitz should be able to help you though

If you open it up, you're most likely to find that Blitz has sealed the chip in a thick layer of epoxy. Double check with the other options suggested, but a stock ECU might be in order... Sad

why not leave it alone, and see how it runs once installed?

youre guessing about the state of tune, and about what kind of fuel it was designed for. who knows, it might jut run dandy on 98ron, and youll be like a pig in shit with a blitz tuned ecu!

How did you notice the engine was tuned lean... what did you notice to make you think that? I think STD Jap fuel is 100 Octane.. Just run Optimax and add a can of Octane booster every tank Smile Send me a link to the PDF... may be able to translate for you!!!

I'm with Ed. I'd be giving it a try, even if to get the engine running, but I've read over and over, the Mines ECU's are notoriously bad for not working properly under Australian conditions.

Adam, I noticed all inside the exhaust side of the head was pure white in colour... sure sign that it's running lean. Try looking at Blitz.co.jp (or something similar) and follow the links to the section that has Access ECU on the page.

I'll be giving the original ECU a go first up, but if it doesn't pan out like if it's running the engine too lean and pinging it's head off, I'll probably be looking for something like a second-hand Haltech ECU. I'll find out in about a week or so's time. Nod
