Assuming the lift is also increased, 288 is starting to mean business and might be just a touch tricky for the street. 272 is teh ghey. Your standard 18RG will have a duration of around 230-240 degrees.
Need also to know the duration @ 50 thou and lift before we could make a definite comment.

Biggest 18rg cams I've seen (still called, questionably, streetable) were 304's at 10.5mm. Quite large but were std TRD items. Would need some expansion of breathability to work.

i had a 18rgu and was told the cams in it were 350. would that be correct. It ran really lumpy so i always assumed it was right.

ahhh, you mean degrees??? hmmm, lets see. what happens if a cam is open for 350 cranks degrees? ahhhh......
as for streetable cams, ppl have different ideas. i think streetable has to idle at 1500rpm or less
the 277/284 (50 thou 231/235) 435thou lift cams in my 4K are still streetable with 10.2CR
anything more i think would be a little much too live with, unless you -really- wanted to...
but yeah, 288/277 soudns good (tho mine are other way round)
Cya, Stewart
ps, mine is/are 'stage 4' camtech cam, out of 7 stages. last streetable one tho.

the 304 and 288 are rally grinds that trd did for 2tg and 18rg you need to no what they are at 50thou at around 260 onwards gets up to 3/4 race should still idle at 1000 rpm and still at 10.5 lift is small .trd did some race cams for both motors 420 thou and 440 thou lift but 320 duration and they went to 8000 so power from 4500 upwards ,on the subject of lift im running 535 thou or 13.5 lift with 296 duration but at 50thou they are 268 and it idles at 750 rpm

interesting. with my cams, i lose vacuum at about 1200rpm, and my power band is from 4000-8000+ (DD5)
what vacuum do you have with those cams at 750rpm? i'm assuming you're injected? what motor (pardon me if i should know already )
just curious how you get the thing to idle..
oh, and is it smooth idle, or lopey idle... i consider idling to be where there is minimal missing, and smooth running, not like V8 drag idle, wher it fires every 2 or 3 rpm (that that always does sound nice )

umm... kind alike the rotary crap idle but much slower.. like
vrrm...........vrrrm..........vrrrm..........vrrrm .........
not lumpy where it burbles , more like where it is firing maybe 1/3rd of the time....
CelicaRA45. i meant actual MAP value... and, yeah, shouldve looked at your sig
i think you are in a different world to most of us as far as engine manners goes

mmmm lumpy cam I was at my engineers work the other day, and was watching a car they had just put a 351w into...at idle the whole front of the car shook..i was like whoa! Almost got the tyres on fire when he took off.
Mine wont start to get real angry until 3k, the cam becomes alive then..should go out to 8500 hopefully. But it is pretty wild. Sig erson brand
