hey all, as the title suggests, will this be possible?
i'm pretty sure it will, but need to know if i need to hassle the guy for his old starter motor too.

Hmm it'd kinda be upside down wouldn't it.
Assuming you can still get the cables on it would imagine it'd be ok.

My understanding is the only difference in JDM bellhousing is starter and possibly clutch (not sure) is on the driver side.
The 4AC had exhaust on driver side, so makes sense for starter to be out of the way on the passenger side. But 4AGE exhaust being on passenger side, they put the starter on driver side.

As for the alternator... The 4AC one uses a single V belt. The 4AGE one has those ribbed ones. Also the different in 4age being internally regulated whereas 4ac is external reg.
I'm trying to remember what I did now when I converted mine. I used an AE82 FWD 4AGE though so all a bit different.
I know I used the 4AGE alternator, but as for brackets... Think I just left it on the original 4AGE brackets. I can confirm that for you tonight if you wanted.

well i know for a fact that the JDM bellhousing has the clutch on the drivers side, or the "away from the exhaust" side, and its on the passenger side of the poverty spec model.
this is the thing i am concerned about, the extractors that came with the engine supposedly will not fit with the australian spec bellhousing, if i was doing the exhaust myself i would just use the bellhousing and starter motor i have.
as far as the alternator goes, thanks for the offer, but dont bother checking, if the 4ac one fits and i can change the pulley i may fit it, but it is really a small problem.
if it is internally regulated, i can piss off the voltage regulator, weight reduction! woo hoo.
the alternator is on the drivers side of the engine, you cant use the 4ac brackets because the tensioning bracket bolts onto the totally different head.
thanks again

kinda bump, checked through the AE86 chassis manual, and it shouws the starter on the passenger side, so all should be good.
funny thing, the JDM clutch fork appears fairly different from the australian one, apart from being on the other side that is
