Problems With MS65 Toyota Crown Thu, 15 January 2004 22:38 Go to next message
Hey all,
I have a 1973 Toyota Crown Paddock basher,
And i seem to be having some problems with it, Firstly the car's timing is too perfection, but for some reason when you start to put the foot down a bit and going up hills the car shudders to and fro, and then just about stalls can any1 tell me what the problem is. Engine is a 4M

Hey man thanks for that, i might get it done, but would it have any thing to do with the coil and resistor because you cant start the car by key you have to roll start it does that make a difference?
cheers

if it was either of them i dont think the car would start both my coil and ballast risistor have fkd up i rolled down a hill and tried bump starting it at 50kmh it still wouldnt.

im gueesing its your starter motor/if you have no power at all it will be the alternator.

but if it has only just started doing it it might be the alternator when mine went i drove the car my stereo switcehd off and none of the electrics would work so it couldnt give enough power to the coil it just wanted to stall so i reved the piss out of it to get home i think because i kept the revs up it gave just enough power to run things but as soon as i got home and turned it off it was dead.

get a voltage meter and check it im not to sure what its supposed to be at i think 12v.

but if it runs ok (ie idles good) then i would say carbie/ maybe shit in the fuel (happened to me all the crusty shit from the tank got suxed threw the fuel lines) the car ran like a pos i just drained the tank changed fuel filter and it loved it.

ps. i have a 4m in my corona if you cant tell Very Happy

Hey man,
thanks for the reply Very Happy yeah i will have a look at the starter motor but we recently just got a new one about 1 month ago so it still should be fine, my dad reckons its the coil and resistor becuase on the resisitor there is a negative wire coming off it and going on to one of the batttery teminals and its short circuited and i think it fucking the resistor up...
and yes it idles perfect when it gets to hills or you give it a bit then it starts to die on its ass... it run outta fuel not that long ago and i tryed starting it so i reckon i have sucked some shit up! but yeah i will take a look at it and see what i cant do,
thx bro,
Cheers, Brad
