allright, bimbo question: ive got my motor completely apart, im cleaning up the block, and im thinking about painting it. now, ive got a ta22 stg, so i want to polish up the aluminium cover-so that will be silver. the body work on the car will be lime. so, im thinking: black block, silver cover and gold extractors....that a bit pimp, a little too garish? i dunno, give me suggested other colour combos, i dont want a light block tho coz youll c too much shit on it, im thinking dark purple?
whats the best process to polish up the aluminium cover?
and also, ive noticed a few people have straight through exhausts fitted. this means the front muffler is absent right? does this effect performance much? does it make it heaps louder?
thanks

ok if your stripping your block and cleaning it that means you SHOULD put all new gaskets on stuff when you put it back together my block is green but i dont have any leaks so its all good, so paint it whatever colour you want just use heatproof engine enamel
get a buffer of some description or if your really keen give it to a metal polisher and ask how much.
i tried to paint my extractors with heatproof paint and the stuff is shit it flaked off after a week, in other words dont bother get it Heat proof coated.

straight through exhaust would refer to using straight through mufflers, which are basically just straight perforated tubes rather than the regular oem mufflers with baffled chambers.
A whole system will increase power a little, and depending on the muffler/s and resonator/s of choice, it could be very loud indeed, or it could be relatively quiet (but still louder than standard exhaust).

so do straight through exhausts without the baffles increase performance a little bit?

yep.
depends on the size of course.
if you have cats, then they can be a nice source of restriction, so high flow units are nice.
and 'cat-back' exhausts do little in the way of power increase, only noise increase. so the best way to unleash more power is to reduce restriction close to the engine, i.e. with extractors and a full exhaust system.

Yeah the only way to paint exhaust components is to get them powercoated. Im pretty sure you can't do it yourself cheaply, so i would leave the extractors as is.
