I'd say they would have to swap the shifter housing and selector shaft over - shouldn't be a drama for them.
Now, tits on gear knobs are my speciality, only $50 this week!!! However you want a tit on a gear "nob" - a much rarer proposition and with all the Initial D and Drift wank factor around at the moment, you'll pay a premium for this fitting - say $80?!!!

When I was putting a W50 into my Corona MKII the gearstick was in correct position.. It was the gearbox xmember that was causing all the dramas and wouldn't fit.

It was all part of a 5ME weekend conversion. As it was late Sunday afternoon and had to be back on the road ASAP I gave up and put the W40 back in. Haha not much help sorry!
But basically the W40 xmember sat right where the 5th gear would be in the W50.

Guys, I believe the w50 gearbox has 2 to 3 different types of shifters. That is the gear stick is located forward or back on the box. The fixing position of the gearstick onto the box has different shape adapters. 1. being short a square type and the other long and thin.Plus one more which I'm not sure of type.

Agree with omegaman here, the W50 does have at least two different shifter locations, and I can't tell you what model car had which.
Swapping the W40 and W50 shifter bits should be a no brainer for any 'compentent' gearbox guy or mechanic.

Wouldn't the w40 box be similar to the w50 box that there may be a combination of shifter positions. now the question is will they be the same type ?????

i know for the K boxes there are three different shifter positions, and 6 different extension housings (that i know of)
for the 4 speeds, you can swap an extension housing and shifter over IF you also change the shift rods at the same time.
i've done this with all three shifter positions
maybe you're lucky and the W series is similar?

they had the selector housing off and he showed me the two rods they where differnt one had a hole in the top and one on the side so they didnt change over.
he said he would try and get one with the shifter in the right place but he said expect to pay abround 300 - 350 for it so i said just fit that one in there if you can
if all else fails "anyone got a w50 with a rear most shifter posistion?"

Hmmm, very wierd, but surely it would be easier to drill a hole in the W50 selector to suit the W40 shifter positioner
It would take about 2 mins and work perfectly
Muuuuch better idea than cutting the floor of your car

i said can you get it made up / modify and he said no there's a thread hole in the side so it would need to be thread.

Hmmm, even wierder
All mine have just been a hole, that you put a pin in, no threads, no screws
(unless we are talking about 2 different things?)
Are we talking about this?

Coz the W57 i have is threaded, but I'm damn sure the W50/40 wasnt, hmm, maybe I'm remembering incorrectly
But still, drilling and threading is still not a hard task

i think its the rod you can see just further up from the arrow but the w40 shifter position overhangs that black thing that connects to the tailshaft. the w50 is in the central posistion like the ones shown there, so the gearbox would be like this w40 bellhousing + shifter housing but the rod from the w40 wont fit in the w50.
hope that makes sense
