Decent aftermarket computers/ chips Mon, 19 January 2004 09:08 Go to next message
am looking at doing some mods to the ae92 4age.
Port/ polish
260 degree cams
shaved head

What else is there to do to the engine with out forced induction?
will the fuel system need to upgraded. IF so will the ZE fuel system be ok to use, i think its injectors are rated at 365cc.
With the coputer, what is recommened? did trd do a computer back for this engine in the day? will a chip do the job. what full computer will take care of all the minor things the standard one does?
i know people wouid have done these before and would be most gratefull for any advise you have gained.
thanks.

No such thing as snap in chips for a 4ag ECU... you can only really replace the whole computer or add a piggy back unit... HKS did make a F-Con that went with the 4AG but still had to piggyback in with the Factory ECU... there are a handful of piggy-back devices available from the big Jap manufacturers but hard to get new these days. The is also a selection of straight replacement ecu's, for example the infamous Buddy Club Brack Box. These are just the ECU with a slightly more agressive fuel/timing mapping to more suit popular minor bolt on mods you may do to your car. Pretty hit and miss really. The ultimate solution being a MOTEC or similar and now you're really starting to look at big bucks. IMO not worth it unless you have done heaps of other mods to your engine.
Hope this is of some help.

the price for cams and port n polish is not worth it for the power gains

most new age engines have good flow capabilities

so unless u r after 500 hp port and polish and cams wont do much
except for fuk yr fuel economy

MT8

You'd need an MTX model as the MT's are fuel only, not ignition as well (probably why it's been there for so long!!)

better tell this to the hoards of japs that do it.

maybe he (like me) isnt after 500 hp, just a bit more poke up top.

price for port and cams, i can get cams for 350 the pair for the same specs's second hand, and port and polish for... well cheap anyway i know someone who has an engine recon workshop.

if u can port yrself then ok

but for someone who cant
its bout 300 to 500 for good prt job
and for new cams its like anywhere from 400 to 800

so by the time u add up headgasket
adjusting cam shims afew odds and ends
it could be up to 2000 bucks if u pay a workshop to do it

mt8 do both fuel and ignition

the x stands for internal ignitors in the microtech

mt8 means u have to use the factory toyota ignitors

Thanks guys. now i kind of know what im looking at.
if it will come to that much would it just be more viable to put in the black top 20v? And whats the score with putting a turbo onto that one? ive heard of it being done but thats looking at a lot of dollars.
one other quesiton. has anyone put the black top gear bok onto the 100kw? i havent seen how the mounts/ brackets match up to them.
Thanks for all your help guys. appreciate it heaps

Dude dont listen to anyone else cam port whatever its all power.
Just depends on what you want and what your willing to spend.
This is my computer it has worked faultlessly for me and I run a turbo combination with a standard ge computer (Dont be fooled into thinkin its a piggyback)
