Hi first off i know jack all about cars so far but i've got a TA22 with a 2t engine in it. I've also got another body that i've taken a 2TG out of that's got a hole in the block. What i want to do is put the 2TG stuff onto the 2T to get some more power, but not too much. Just a little bit...maybe
I'm in adelaide. Can anyone help me with info/help/do it for me? hehe
Thanks heaps
Chris

yeah i had read that but as i said i know jack about cars so was totally confused cos they're talking about a 3t or something?
anyway i've got lots to read so far ..maybe i can just use my 2t block to rebuild the 2tg...that would probably be easier...
i hope.. cos i don't have lots of $$$
Thanks again

for your benefit mate, the 3T is a 1.8 litre version of the 2T (which is a 1.6)
you can use your 2T block for your 2TG but there are a few little differences that need to be taken into account - for example - instead of there being a cam down low in the block a dummy cam is there instead to drive the oil pump and distrbutor - this relies on different bearings that need to be inserted into the 2T block for this to work correctly.
the front timing case is different, no pushrods in the 2TG, but otherwise i understand they're the same... (someone else please correct me if i'm wrong here)
keep searching mate. STACKS of stuff on this.
also look up jonny rochesters site for info....the url used to be http://www.tassie.net.au/~jar

im actually doing this swap this week, its fairly basic, no modfication needed, just pull out the 2t and drop in the 2tg,
its my first engine swap effort, and not proving to be too difficult,
all you really need is:
a flat area to work on
engine stands and jack
strong wrenchs (10,12,13,14,17mm i think)
sockets (same sizes as above) with ratchet and extension bar
flat head screw driver
a few pans/ cardboard to catch and collect coolant and oil
an engine crane/ hoist of some sort
old towels/rags
hacksaw
wd40
a lot of things most people have, and not too expensive to buy,
an engine crane is $300
other stuff can be had for $100-200
some modifications to throttle linkages (or cable setup from later celica)
other than that allow a few fulls days, and with some sense and patience its pretty easy stuff
