try
iSwipe <www.hillmanminx.com>
or
eetee <eetee.com>

note: limewire won't find much behind a firewall unless you tell it the external IP address, and open up port 6346 for incoming connections

i'm actually running eettee on my firewall box - is an old Beige G3 running 10.2.8 and using Brickhouse to setup firewall rules and provide a gateway for the rest of the computers in the house. More hassles to setup than a dLInk or netgear box, but decent performance and much better interface to setup.

hi brad - both are pretty slow on my old blue+white G3

eetee prefers to have a direct net connection - or a few ports forwarded to it - for all the bits to work. is still beta (0.9 i think) so i've had a few unexpectedly quits

i'm using the eetee version - i thought the LAN version was for internal P2P stuff - if not and it knows more about working with NAT/IPFW firewalls then i'll give it a go.

iSwipe is also slow - plus if it's doing bitorrent downloads, it wont do anything else. but works well behind firewall (both my home grown one and a dLink) - is running behind me hoovering stuff.

limewire was stable on my B+W but slow slow slow - was like using the internet on valium+largactyl.

i'll try the two RobST162's suggested - maybe they're a bit faster on my slower machines

ive got a cube and eetee works ok. There are a few annoying omissions but it connects pretty good through my wireless router and adsl modem. There is a huge amont of traffic through though. The lights on my router go nuts. Iwonder if this is because it keeps researching the networks. Anyones thoughts.

i think most of these apps were written for mac users with umlimited b/band Wink

if you tell eetee to ultrapeer it will generate mega traffic - also once you've found something and are downloading, close that particular search.

bittorrent will also generate traffic from re-sharing back into the network

i'm trying Acquisition in the background now - very nice interface, and unlike eetee, limewire and iSwipe, runs at a good speed on my B+w G3. however, it's only really searching the gnutella network - next up is MLMac

huh? Mac's suck the cock? well at least some of us aren't using our right-hand to simulate oral sex?

well it's better than being an illiterate, socially disfunctional PC user whos only contribution to the internet is to unwittingly spread viri and worms ad nauseum and write shit like that...

{oh dear ... here comes another PC versus Mac flame war...)

back on topic now <i got angry for a moment then logged off and took it out on the misfitting space that my radiator's about to occupy>

... has any of youz mac users had to reconfigure your firewall (be it a hardware router or another mac/pc/linux box) to get some of these apps to do everything?

stuff like gnutella's pretty easy, just tell it to push your exsternal IP address out to the nearest ultrapeer - but other protocols are not so friendly... eDonkey & openNAP i've not had much luck with....

i'm using Brickhouse to tune/configure the NAT/firewall plus provide me with a software router - but am resorting to leaving unpriviledged (spell?) ports open above 1024 - and that's ordinary security.

it's most likely that these apps were written with a single mac user with firewall and broadband .. but i'm at home with 2 macs & a PC so i need a router/firewall - which is currently my oldest mac (G3/300 beige tower) (which also happens to be our print server and bit bucket).

also - had any luck with bittorrent and large files (e.g. disk images, DVD rips)?

tia, charles

I have no idea about this stuff. eetee which was recommended earlier i think is working. The only protocol that dosent is untrapeeper. My isp is iinet and im using my router to logon through my adsl modem. i dont know if it is working properly or not my i seen to get a fair amount of files. It seems to find more files when i click on the search button again.
