Speak to the people that make the cages mate! They can be made to be street legal! As far as i know, in QLD you cant have the side intrusion bars fitted!
But just call anyone that makes them, they can tell you everything you need to know!

theres a reason rollcages are hard to get legal in steet cars......cos they are extremely dangerous !!!
if you find a car with a cage in it try smashing your skull into the pipe at about 50 km/h and see how safe it is
you want the cage, you MUST use a helmet, and full harness belts to stop your head reaching the cage in a collision

yeah thats so the do gooders at CAMS have something to talk about at morning tea
trust me ive seen the results of a rally car having an accident on a touring stage....lets just say the codriver doesnt know his name anymore
a set of harness belts is a good idea ..though i think some states have a rule that it restricts movement too much which is pretty right and thats why alot of rally cars still have 3 point belts for touring stages

Contrary to some of what's been said so far, cages are a good idea.

if you go a proper weld-in design, you'll increase the body rigidity of the vehicle as well, something the AE86 can definitely use.
talk to your local authorities about what is legal in your area, and then decide if you want one in your street car.

in NSW,you have to sacrifice quite a bit to run a cage-the car has to be re-registered as a two seater, any parts of the cage that surround the occupants have to be a set distance away when you're in the seat(to prevent coming into contact with the cage in an accident),and padded.
permanent side intrusion bars are not permitted any longer.

if you're going to go for a cage, you'd want to already have a pair of good seats, and be using harnesses. besides keeping you in place if you have a problem, you can drive a car considerably harder when you're held in properly.

bond roll bars would be a good place to start. failing that, ask around the rally boy traps for who knows what they're doing in this area.

well i have a red recaro bucket and a half fold passenger as well as 3 point harnesses so i think it should be pretty easy

as for the 2 seater thing, its pretty much a 3 seater now because of the harness' anyhow

ouch those 3 point harness belts are a nasty piece of work too
try and get a crutch belt added, it stops the lap belt riding up and crushing your chest in head on accidents

Sorry to seem like a safety nut about all this, dont get me wrong i know a rollcage is a safety item but only if you use ALL of the gear as a complete package

If you are hell bent on having a cage in there id say have a main hoop and backstays and thats it, this setup will still offer protection from a roof collapse but not get in the way of everyday driving

I'd stay away from the 5 clip harness if you are a male! If you hit a tree or the like head on, you will regret it for months! Trust me about this I know! The 4 clip harness will be fine if your using a bucket seat with the straps through the sides!

Id rather have sore nuts than a smashed sternum anyday , the crutch belt is designed to stop the lap belts sliding up your chest
if ya so worried about it get a harness with double crutch straps

The belts wont slide up to your chest if they are going through the sides of the seat!

yeah but even with a good set of 3" wide belts, a decent hit can stretch the lap and shoulder belts upto 30cm(depending on length), and if your body is still going forward...where are you gonna end up ?!?!
ive hit a tree at about 100ks and my lap belt made it up my chest enough to damage my lower ribs and that was with a crutch belt !!

You must of been using cheap shit!
I would never go back to have a strap over ya nut sack once you've hit a tree at over 115kmh with one! I was laying on my back for just about 4 weeks when it happened to me!

Full cages are not road legal, half cages are. No back seat allowed though. Head impact as metion before as the reason. need to go through the pits etc.
