Two Computers? Wed, 21 January 2004 11:54 Go to next message
After flickin through some car mags I see that the 1uz's(in Crowns anyway) run 2 computers one for engine and gearbox. Now if the engine was running a aftermarket ECU would it be possible to run the auto with its own computer?
Just curious that's all Very Happy

Yup, the Crown 1UZ's use 2 separate boxes. The auto trans box however likes the engine box to be present, therefore the easy way to run an aftermarket unit is to do the messy but common 'piggyback' appraoch - wire up the factory stuff fully, then run new wires to the injectors and coils, and connect these to the 'new' ECU. That way, you can set the fuel and timing, and the factory gear looks after everything else, like changing gears, idle speed, etc. Only thing is, and I'm not sure about this, you might need to leave the air flow meter in place as a load source for the trans ECU - this is quite possibly not true though, merely a guess on my part! Evil or Very Mad (seeing as people are always in such a hurry to ditch air flow meters when they fit an aftermarket ECU...)

the auto gbox on a crown needs the factory ecu to work like a normal auto

there is a guy in canberra that makes a module that makes the auto full tiptronic

meanin a button to go up gears and a button to go down

this will not change gears automatically

only other way maybe be using the lastest motec to change gears for the auto

but i will prob run into alot of problems
it will be stuck in one gear i presume

you can try feeding the stock TPS signal into the L1 L2 L3 pins of the auto ecu that may keep it happy

the auto ecu talks to the engine ecu aswell theres about 10 wires from engine ecu to auto ecu
then u have throttle sensor
2 speed sensors
solenoid wires

theres not much u can do

u can get a bell housing and fit a manual gbox to it

goto lextreme website

http://www.lextreme.com/

find someone called kdog he sells the tiptronic gear

he sells them for around 300 to 400 dollars then u have to wire them up
