AE86 Sunroof

Ok my new AE86 has a sunroof, and yep, you guessed it, its knackered. The panel is rusted, which i can fix thats not a problem. The problem is, the track is broken, and the previous ownen attempted to fix it with body filler. can anyone beleive that shit? body filler. So anyway, i need a replacement. I had considered the celica but found its too big obviously. Im curious if anyone knows if any other sunroof is the right size to fit in there? Whether it be aftermarket or from some other car. Any help is greatly appreciated.

do yourself a favour mate and remove the whole lot, cut it all out and weld on a new roof, not only will the car be structually stronger but it will never ever leak.
ae86 sunroofs leaked from day one (as does any other early 80's sun roofs) and you'll probably find a LOT of cancer under that body filler mate

simon is correct
sunroof's are lame (in my opinion) and they make the chassis weaker
weld that fucker up

ive pulled the whole mechanism out, the rust actually aint bad at all. Kinda looked forward to having a sunroof seeing as my other AE86 dont have one. But yeah I guess ill have to consider just sealing the sucker up when it comes time to fix up the body for a a new paint job. Thanks

I'd like to get it welded up but seems a huge job.

My daily sprinter has a sunroof so i had to get another sprinter without one. i really hate the things.
welding a roof is not the easiest thing to do so get it done properly.

If its not bad I'd be keeping it, I love it and I can't wait till I get back to my car with a sunroof. My car, and I guarantee yours, coupled my driving ability there is no way I'll ever get it to the point I can tell the real difference, especially when the sunroof is in place.

i had an aftermarket sunroof in my gze sprinter....never ever leaked. I found it came in handy on hot-as-shit days.
It does weaken the chasis(marginally) but unless you're flogging it round corners or competing in races regularly i cant see it being that much of a hindrance

hows this for thought then, ive seen gze anfd turbo ae86's with a 4agte in it, with a sunroof, develop crease marks just after the A piller, due to the chassis twisting.

The RA28 sunroof never leaks which is good. The AE86 ones both leaked so bad they are now siliconed up. So not really sunroofs anymore
But I doubt i'd go to the trouble of getting them welded up. Just put new ones in so they dont leak.
I've heard from a few sources that they do weaken the roof considerably though.

i dont doubt that...what i was trying to say is that it all depends on how you use your car. If u just putt around daily driving then there wouldnt be the stresses decribed above. On the other hand if you're flogging it, which im sure would have occured in the above mentioned cars, it would be a drama.
I agree that sunroofs are crap...i base that on the way that i like to drive my car...im just pointing out that if the car gets driven like grannys then he'll be sweet

What does that say about the AE86 chassis if its twisting that much?

AE86 chassis is almost beercan class - that's why the buggers are so light. Given what I'm doing to my engine at present, I dread to think what the whole car will look like if I don't put a cage in it

I got a factory sunroof. Rusted as shit. But still don't leak.
Another friend of mine actually put a r32 sunroof in his car. Dunno how. But anythings possible. If the tracks are busted take it to a sunroof joint and get a glass panel etched in

Does a quality roll cage really strenghten the chassis, or is it there for safety reasons.
Ive heard of people's car actually handling a lot worst then before. Perhaps it was installed wrong?
