$6k isn't nearly enough to cover the above. In fact I wouldn't suggest starting any sort of project with a budget like that - instead you should shop around for the best car you can buy with $6k. And "best" is defined by your own needs and preferences. If you tell us exactly what you're looking for in a car, I'm sure we can all offer suggestions.

$6k will buy you a lot of old skool...
It'd prolly be enough for an old skool Silly Car and a total suspension upgrade. Which isn't a bad place to start...

Best bang for bucks in celicas under 6K would be an 18rg powered ra28 or 23 , those things even in OLD carby mode hammer , and with suspension modifications ( ie shocks springs swaybars ) and a better set of stoppers ( norbies got ma61 supra brakes on the front of his ra23 ) the thing would handle very very well ..
if you want EFI - then a 2tgeu ta22 would be a good start - once again - brake upgrade to corona struts/pug rotors/hilux 4 spots ) swaybars and springs would have it handling like a cat on carpet
Both cars have the capability for taking on your commodores/falcons/ricers if you intend to go that way with your driving as well
Dont even try to get a turbo or heavily engine modified celica ( ie one with a 6 cyl, not 2t,3t, or 18r series ) if you intend to fully insure it ( comprehensive - not just third party ) - cause likelyhood would be that the companies would tell u to bugger off
with both ra23/28 or ta22 you can always go and do a swap to a 3tgte later on if you want, pretty easy bolt up job with only minor mods + some electrical/plumbing work or work on supercharging a 2tgeu or 18rgeu using the 4agze's blower

Hey Guys, the car im driving now is insued through my dads work. Its just hight premiums if i crash cos im under 25. Insurance is cheap through that but i dont know how much, and i can get insured no matter what as it will be insured as a "Work" car, and i am on the payroll so i am an "EMPLOYEE"
Now what would be the best type of celica to go after? whats better, turbo or supercharged? or would an NA engine prove better in the long run for me? i want something with some balls cos im sik of my 50kw sprinter hahahahaha

being young id say get yourself a decent N/A celica like an 18rg - cam it and learn how to use it - and keep turbo plans till after 25 - then you shouldnt have hassles from the cops as well
100+ horses at the wheels + 15 sec quarters are about the norm for decent 18rg's i believe - so it would be a bit pokier than the sprinter
thats just my oppinion - im building a N/a celica ta22 with a single cam 2tb that should do around 80 - 100 hp at the rears when dialed in

Why not spend the $6000 on a new motor for the sprinter? that should give it some very larg balls

Say again ?? * deciphering homeie speek *
As for silvia - why bother ?? thery are no more grunty than a 18rgeu - look no where near as good as a classic celica - and they are nissan ?
If you buy nissan - save an extra 10G and buy a GTS sKyline or a 300zx

You can usually pick up an R32 GTS for just a bit more than a S13 Q's... Waaaay more grunt... Or a GTS-t for some really easy mods to make faster and not too much more than the K's.... Thats if you want Nissan... Personaly though, I would stick with the sprinter and pour all my cash into that... but thats just me

probably wouldnt be a bad thing - a nice 4age conversion in your sprinter - if it isnt bent to hell and rusty - would go Ok .. the number of guys on here have to say something about it ..
Thats another option to peek at - put the 6k into your sprinter - ie twin cam motor - some nice wheels + suspension , and tidying work ..
wont have the cool factor but overall they are a more modern car

Thanks guys
im pretty keen on a TA22 or RA23 celica, have been for quite some time now...to me, the sprinter is a great car, but it isnt what i want if ya get me? im prolyl selling it soon and hopefully to someone who appreciates them more than me.
Now on to the silly car (see im learning all u sprinter fans hahahaha) but na, i love da shape of these models n thats what im gonna look for... i have prolly 4-6000 to spend up front on a celica n then ova the next months and years get it to show standard unless something changes and i find a new project hahahaha.
In the long run, what model would be better for conversions sake etc? i dont really know all that much about the difference in these models so any help would be greatly apreaciated.
Thanks for all your help...i lurve these forums!!!!

if you've got that.. I'd get a MK2 supra ... plus you'd have a little left over then save up for a 1JZ-gte or 2jz-gte conversion
280+hp bone stock is a beautiful thing

Mk2's are pretty i must admit - ill probably buy my dads immaculate one when he decides to part with it ..
Old school wise - your best bet would have to be the RA series - simply cause they are slightly easier to find parts for - have better brakes , have extra space for larger engine clearance - and have a better gearbox stock for something like a 18RG conversion
ta22 IMHO look alot smoother but parts these days are getting awfully haed to find - like straight bumpers , and bonnets ..
They have a letdown in the front brakes dept - and need a lot more work to swap to larger rotors - whereas an RA strut can take a supra vented disc and caliper with minor modifications to the plate the caliper bolts to ( see norbies site again ) They also can take a 11 inch commodore rotor i believe without mods to the hub but im not 100% sure .. an afternoons work compared to multiple hundreds of dollars in parts , labour and fiddleing with.
for 6 grand you could buy something similar to teenz's new car with an 18rg - straight , minimal bodywork necessary and have the start to a real good modifications platform that not only looks cool - its cheap to work on as well
My starting point advice - with you being a P Plater would be a RA23/28 , 18rg conversion already done + most likely mags/minor suspension/exhaust work ( estimate of $3500 price - $4000 for a clean example ) then spend your extra $$ that you may have on a decent set of front seats ( honda prelude buckets are my choice - 250 bux to buy from a jap importers and minimal fuss to install - ask me about it as i have done it ) A nice CD player would be a go - and some nice speakers , a DECENT security system ( ie immobiliser, central locking, remote key twipper thing ) and then build on that - QUICK run down on cost estimates
Car: $3500 approx Seats : $350 installed and engineer approved Stereo $1000 ( cd player , front splits + rears ) Security :350
Grand total $5100
that leaves you 900 approx to play with for rego/insurance out of 6 grand - providing you do your own seat install and stereo install - get security fitted professionally
Sorry about the rant - though i hope it helps

theres no real " best engine " IMHO - just hat you want -
Carbywise - id say definantly a 2tg or 18rg ( 18rg is a more powerful motor ) - EFI - well once again theres 2tgeu , 18rgeu , or 4age
The problem with 4age's i believe is your stuck with 1600cc where as 18rG's and 2tg's can be stroked out usinf later model cranks and pistons . Plus 4age's you have to rev the guts out of to get the power - whereas the other two produce their power at lower revs and keep going from there
Anyway - its your choice

"Z" car for sure (did a TA22 owner say that) surely Toyota would make a better car than Nissan. I'd take the 240Z over the TA22 anyday. Sorry thinking out loud again. No.........really an early model Celica would be the way to go. Get yourself a nice stereo and a car alarm and enjoy yourself buddy.
