Well there are only 2 radar detector detector units in Queensland and as far as I know they are not currently installed.
So the answer is yes, but your not likely to be court unless they see it on your dash or where ever.

for nsw people - that doesn't apply here
stacks of hwy patrol cars have radar detector detectors installed, and I heard a rumour that one or 2 patrol cars did too

and apparently in australia the detector technology the police use is way ahead of that in the US. So if you buy a "undetectable" imported one, be careful because it may not be. Do a bit of research :)

I thought Australian police switched to laser speed scanners a long time ago. If so, then the radar detectors would be totaly useless. And i don't think they make laser detectors (I don't think you CAN detect a laser unless it's pointed at you... then it's to late).

yeah, though the roadside fixed cameras may be detectable? You need the scramblers for laser speed cameras, a detector would be too late as described above

Just about every radar dector I have played with had a laser dector built in. Nothing special about lasers

most modern detectors have laser, K ,Ka, Kx and L band detectors... ive used one for a few years and not been picked out yet despite driving buy with it still switched on.... i think there is a lot of "misinformation" propogated by the police on how good and prevalent there detection systems are

I was under the impression that lasers could only be detected when they where fired at you?

Because laser is a light, the reflection bounces off just about everything and this is how the detector picks it up.
Obviously if the laser isnt being used untill you come along, well I wold say your a goner. But I doubt this will ever be the case as lasers are mainly ever used on busy roads.

Stuff detection... why not amplify the signal and send it back...
Grab a ku band detector (e.g. LNB from satellite dish) and a ultra HF amp (e.g. a couple of ku band signal amps available from sat stores) make a few modifications and send a couple of watts worth of ku band back...
wonder how their radar systems would take that! at minimum you would cause so much interference that they couldn't take a proper reading....
just a thought...

that still wont jam the laser. lasers are only accurate from 300m anyway, they tend to aim from about 500m out so the detector pics it up long before they can pick you out. once at 300m it takes approx0.02 seconds to get a reading... depending on your speed you do the math on the time youve got to slow down. shitty detectors wont give enough warning... good detectors will, front and rear.
not only that lasers work around the 1500nm range where as K* band is in the MHZ
it would however fry thier reading sin K series bands .. but hell even the self opening doors work on the KA band.. its barely used these days anyway

It's not the Police's fault that the Law is screwy... that's the pollys fault. We should have a laser that kills Pollys.

Mmmmmmm.... got pulled doing 123 in 110 zone, highway, late night, he was coming round a corner. Hit the skids when the detector went off, he still got us. Let us off though. Asked where the detector was, looked at it on the dash, said that they don't work too well, and we drove away. so yeah, they must be legal in WA at any rate.
