engine swap from mr2 into other rear wheel drive car?

Without going into too much tech detail *otherwise I would have posted it there*
That sort of swap should be fairly straight forward as far as engine conversions go *apart from efi, sump position etc etc etc..." to do shouldn't it?
or am I missing something here and over simplifying the idea??

yes mr2s are RWD, but they're also mid-mounted - so you have all the problems you have with a FWD front mount engine

The MR2 uses a front wheel drive drivetrain mounted in the middle of the car. The AW11 engine and box is very simillar to the AE82 SX setup and the SW20 is the same with the 3SGE celica's.
There's very advantage in using an MR2 3S-GTE for a rear wheel drive conversion. In fact the only advantage I can think of is that the alternator is mounted low on the intake side of the block instead of high on the exhaust side.

simplified: the MR2 has the engine mounted across the car, the same as a fwd car (commonly known as the east west configuration)
to put it into a different rwd car (unless you're talking about another mid mount car, i can't think of any off hand unless you start looking at real serious money) you'd need to convert the engine to the north south configuration, therefore you'd need a new gearbox (including custom bellhousing or spacer plate unless you can afford a 6 speed gearbox out of a late model IS200, the only rwd 3SGE gearbox i can think of) and a hell of a lot of other custom work. its definitly doable, and would be a great conversion, but there's no way it could be considered easy

There is a much cheaper gearbox available, a W55/57 out of an SA63 Celica. There's heaps of other work involved though, like new/modified manifolds and the like. Definitely not for the faint of heart, but it can and has been done!
