Hi Guys,
Need some help/ advice about testing my thermos and their operating condition.
I have them hooked up thermally, and have just put the engine back together.
How do i test if they are working without waiting for the engine to warm up, worrying myself if they dont work, my car will cook??
Its an sv21 camry/ ae92 corolla switch - 90" i think.
Thanks
Blake

unplug the switch ontop of the thermo it should run full time
but yeah.. you'll have to check the manual for resistance and stuff try the tomods gallery - tech docs - and just browse any car manual and look for the cooling system etc

is that a heat up and open switch?
you can unplug the switch, and the fans should turn on. OEM was designed this way in case circuit to switch failed.
other way is to pull the sensor, and dump it in hot water.. it may not get hot enough straight away, so either letting warm up in container of just boiled water, and then pouring hot water over it may do the trick, OR use heated oil (like cooking oil) but be frickin careful...
then check for continuity between switch and engine block when switch is installed and cold (since it has to conduct to turn the relay on to open circuit to make fans stop...)
or just let motor idle while watching temp gauge, and seeing when they turn on.

Dude, practically all engines run at the same or similar temperature. A variation of a few degrees makes fuck-all difference anyway. Just make sure the circuit works correctly (ie manually trip it and make sure the fans are spinning, and in the right direction) and it will be all good.
