3K head, port it a bit, twin carbs, some headers + 2" exhaust, electronic ignition, and a cam
So long as you can do as much as possible yourself so that it won't cost too much, otherwise might just want to look at a 4ag (theres a reason that ideas been done to death!)

shave 60 thou off ya standard head...$30.00
Buy a second hand 1800 cabie from a honda civic...$20
Get a set of extractors that flow really well...$200
Find an electronic ignition module ...$100 or so
Run hotter plugs after the head is done
run thermo fan instead of one on motor.
If ya cant find electronic ignition advance the hell out of yours
It will rattle like shit but hey its only a 4k and itll go better

P.S. the carby bolts straight on.

cheers
Sean

The electronic ignition is worth that much?

DAMMIT!!

I ended up throwing mine away that was in good condition because noone wanted it.

As for the 4k, why? Why not a 5k instead? Physically the same, but a 1500 instead of a 1300.

I have a fully rebuilt (new throttle shafts, butterflies, slides etc)pair of SU carbs on a manifold to suit K series motors. Manifold painted in 2 Pak black and carbs in magenta. Give us a yell if you want them. p.s all brand new linkages as well. Cost me a fortune at the time and I never ended up using them anyway. They are just collecting dust now so I'd sell the lot pretty cheap.

Strip ignition distributor into bits. Limit advance mechanism travel movement. Original has too wide operating range for a tuned engine (i.e. sporty camshaft grind installed). You need more advance in idle/lower rpm range - but about the same advance as standard engine when in high rpm.

Rough guide - set idle advance to about 12 to 16 degrees BTDC. Make all advance come in at about 3500 to 3800 rpm. Max total advance about 34 degrees.
Experiment with one distributor bob weight only, stuff the stronger spring (most likely).

That will make engine run _much_ smoother than ridiciously advanced standard distributor mechanism, and will make more power too. Also having std distributor advanced like there is no tomorrow will help engine to knock under acceleration. That's no good.
