Landcruiser calipers - spring?

I started putting back together my landcruiser calipers today (similar to Hilux ones), and I've discovered that one of the springs that goes between the pads is missing... Could have gone missing when I lent my calipers to someone, or when it went to the engineer to machine, or when my house flooded, or some other time... But I can't find it...
What does it do? I'm guessing it pushes the pads apart? Will the calipers not work without them?
Hmm... hope I don't have to go and buy another set of calipers just to get the silly spring...

Sounds like the anti-rattle spring. Your calipers will work fine without them, but they may be a little noisy.

Hmm... Thanks for that Norbie
That doesn't sound so bad... I'll keep looking for it anyway, but if I can't find it then I'll just put the calipers back together without it...
