Turning starter upside down

I've got a RWD 4AG with one of those hideous dellows bellhousings. It has a starter motor 'place' on both sides, so is there any reason I can't turn my 4AC (LHS) starter upside down and mount it on the RHS? Everything appears to line up just fine, and finding a 'real' AE86 4ag starter is probably going to be quite a task. Has anyone tried this?

No I have not done it! but if it fits, there is absolutly no reason why you can't mount it upside down.

I don't know how, why or what, but my starter's got a little rubber drainage tube underneath it pointing straight down, which doesn't really look like the sort of thing that should be repositioned pointing up (assuming all starters/all 4age starters have the same thing).
Does anyone know why it's there & what it's for? Maybe it's just a breather positioned to avoid water or dirt entering, in which case it could be modified to suite?

Yeah, I noticed this, and was going to be nice enough to plug the hole up and move it to the other side.

in the prb's we end up mounting the 20v starters upside down. does not seem to cause any issues. & yes moving the drain woul be a good idea!!

Dang. I'm an idiot! What the HELL was I talking about a 'genuine 4ag' starter for? I was getting clutch cylinders and starter motors mixed up! I really should not come on here after my bedtime, ey...
Anyways, I took the inlet off today, and took a closer look - it appears that the drivers side starter hole is designed to fit a FWD starter anyway.... YAY!!!! So, no upside down, and an endless supply of spare starters for stuff all $. Could it be that dellows ACTUALLY got something right?

Im guessing the 4AGE AE86 starters are mounted on the right hand side?
The reduction starter motor from a AE92 fits in place of the std 4AC starter too ;p Im running one...

Noooo... that's what I meant when I said I was an idiot, the AE86 starters are ALL LHS...
When I said FWD starter, I mean the reduction starter that has the wider/offset bolts, e.g. GZE, AE92 on 4Aeverything, far as I know.... Anyways, I know there's dozens of them around and they're not exactly in demand. And they make it sound like a freaking hilux
