3TGTE ignition leads

Well I figured out why my engine is running rough. I went to watch a mate hillclimb his old datto GTR on the weekend and the access road to the track was like the surface of mars (I needed a hilux lift kit on the TA22). Anyway the dizzy end of my no.1 plug lead is MIA and I need a new set of leads. I have been quoted $165 for a set of Top Gun 8.0mm silicon leads. Are these leads ok or should I get soemthing else? something not too expensive though. As those sort of prices should be left to those dirty datto drivers.

Stephen, I hope thats not the magnacore leads that have stuffed up!!
If so I would call the guys at thundercords and get them to repair them, they are a VERY expesnive set of leads!!! (I paid $200 (mates), standard v8 set is 300+ )
Custom made for THAT car, only a couple of months before you aquired it.
dont throw them away you wont improve on then once repaired !

I have Top Gun leads on my 2TG. The engine runs. I get a big zap from the leads if I get too close. I don't know if that is good or bad. The engine does not run at 100% all the time, but I don't think the leads are at fualt.

Matt, it was the Magnecor lead which broke. I will get a new lead made up by Thundercords thank for your help. My mechanic mentioned that they were good leads and looking at the magnecor web site they sound pretty damn good. Ultimately I will remove the distributor altogether though to fit a custom plenum. I will fit a hall effect sensor and run coil packs. I will do all this when my recently aquired ROSS forged pistons get fiited next year.

Well I rang the guys at Thundercords on Wednesday morning and had a replacement lead by Thursday arvo. The guys there are friendly and extremely helpfull. It only cost my $20 plus postage. So I cleaned and gapped the plugs put the leads on and fired up the 22. It ran noticeably better but still had a chunky exhaust note. Took it for a quick drive to see if it would clear, still no joy. I then began to fault find the ignition system and found that one of my coils has failed (the other one went about 5 months ago). So tommorow I will buy a new coil and it should be troublefree motoring again.

yep, I wouldn't rate my top Gun 8mm. leads. about 8K ohm resistance each....... however my EAGLE leads have about 1K ohm resistance. !!!! excellent. and sold by APPCO. Not too expensive either. $80 a set or something
