Anyone recommend a good brand and type of clutch?

Can anyone recommend a good brand/type of clutch, and approx, how much it might cost?
The clutch in my Ra65 has been slipping badly for quite a few weeks now, finally got paid so I want to do it soon. When I replace something I like to upgrade it when I can, but I don't know much about clutches - what's sorts are there besides stock? Is there a big tradeoff between clutch grip & driveability?
Any help appreciated, thanks guys

PBR clutches are pretty good and come in a variety of stages..
afaik, they do two clutch covers
PBR is normal one and
RPM is the 'heavy duty one' which means it has up to 50% more pressure.
for friction plates they have organic sprung centre, organic fixed centre, ceramic sprung and fixed, and a couple of others...
call the PBR warehouse in wetherill park about half retail price usually.

Jim Berry from RaceClutch in Qld does some great clutches. I'm getting mine rebuilt by him.
He regularly builds clutches for Targa Tasmania and also drag cars so he knows his stuff. Give him a call on (07) 3847 9999 and discuss your needs and he can offer a suitable solution.

thanks both. Soarer - that sounds great but a little bit upmarket for me. I don't have crazy money and it's only going behind a 22RE (though I'd like to put a 1G in eventually)

If your car is stock, just get a stock clutch; no need to waste money on anything fancy.

i second norbie's suggestion, it is surprising how much better a working stock clutch will work than a fuxxored one (well not that surprising)
odds are you will need a different clutch for the 1GGXE anyway.

The previous owner got a new (stock) clutch only a few years before I bought the car... which was 2 or 3 years ago now. How long should a stock clutch last? Surely longer than 4-5 years. Maybee the way I drive is hard on clutches, I don't know. My engine is stock internally, but the rest of the car isn't.
I guess I need to find out if I would need a different clutch for a 1G (one day....), and how long I should expect to get from a clutch, before I decide.

4 or 5 years isn't too bad, but obviously driving style is the biggest factor.

Les - was it the same size clutch as behind your 22RE, or did you need a different type behind the 1G?

Daiken Super Heavy Duty Organic is a nice tradeoff. Great feel and bite - strong and reliable but still able to be slipped and ridden in traffic.

I find the same with my RPM clutch, expect to pay around $200 or so for a new clutch and another $200 to get it fitted.

One clutch not mentioned is the centreforce clutch.
Ihave one in my 18rgeu ra28 , orange in colour, but the important aspect of it is it comes in about 3 types, from normal street to heavy duty. Mine is normal street which basically means the clutch pedal is weighted as if it is a standard clutch. The difference is the pressure plate has weights on it so as you go faster the weights on the pressure plate spring out and puts more force onto the clutch plate to stop it slipping, I've had it now for 5 yrs or so, still a great feel.

Any other thoughts on RPM clutches? I'm finding trouble finding anywhere down here that will sell anything over a stock clutch for my car, but I can get an PRM standard very cheap.
Omegaman - how much was your CFII? I know someone who has an old model CFII and hated it and had all sorts of issues with it, but I believe they have changed the design since then, and know someone else who loved theirs.

afaik, the only difference between an RPm pressure plate and the normal PBR is the weight (pressure).
the normal sprung centre friction plate comes with both of the "clutch kits" unless you ask for something different.
i like PBR/RPM stuff, but thats just me
buying from the wholesaler is also much cheaper..

Thanks Stuart
Whoops, I meant PBR each time anyway
So with RPM vs PBR, which has more pressure, and what exactly does that mean in real worl applications (springs back more, and better bite??)
