Unifilter - Highly Recommended

Hi All
Just wanted to let everyone know that I purchased a Unifilter filter the other day and couldn't be happier.
I picked it up from the factory at Hornsby. They were very helpful and immediately offered a discount as soon as I said that I belonged to Toymods.
Their web site is uniflow.com.au
Plus, the guy there loves the AE86.

Yes they are good, I have one too, but just wait till you have to clean and re-oil the damn thing, the first time was a pain in the ass.

Oi, digAE86... has your uni filter given your car a really mean induction noise? I have a mate who owns a Mirage.. he bought one and he has one of the best induction noisees.. especially high in the rev range..

Air filters give small engines a nice ballsy note expecially up near the limiter.
I don't have any experience with Unifilters, but I've installed plenty of K&Ns.
Best thing for noise (and performance for the price) though is to rip out the air filter altogether... I've done that to many a hire car...

Hi Brett
The filter, oil and connector cost $40.00 and he gave it to me for $30.00, so that's a 25% discount. Not to shabby.
Very friendly and helpful service. The guy even got under my bonnet to make sure I was getting the size that I needed.

This is a email I got from them a while back.
Hi Brett, Thanks for your email. We do make Rampod kits for both those models of the Corolla. We need to if they are 86KW or 100KW versions. Both kits are $160.00. We do not charge for shipping. The Part Numbers are as follows. 86KW (Rampod 63) 100KW (Rampod 70) Please advise us if your car has a tempreature sensor in the air box so we can supply the Rampod with the facilities for them to be put in the Rampod. Regards Myles Gooch.

Brett, that price is for the 'kit' that is about what aaron paid for his kit... which included the moulded piping that goes from the pod to the throttle body.. altho he has a map (manafold absolute presure) sensor where as with your car i thnk it is afm (air flow meter) not sure tho with the AE82s...

I was thinking of getting a pod filter for my Corolla... Then i found out that they are illegal accompanied by a $200 on the spot fine unless they are enclosed... I have thought of getting one and then making up a perspex box to fit around it and then run either some Air Conditioning piping from the front bar or run the normal piping from the lower air box into the perspex bit... Would this still be considered illegal??? The only thing that would be wrong would be an increase in induction noise... I will be getting a new exhaust for the car that will be around 85dB so they can't get me for that... I would hope that with a quieter exhaust they might leave me be a bit more... But then there is the case of the "P" plate on the back... Hmmmm... If not perspex, what other materials could I construct the box from??? I heard that Clark Rubber has a one inch thick bit of foam glued to a piece of sheet metal... Has anyone else seen this??? Is it any good???

Yeah, i just had a look. That looks like a good price, i think its just the bare filter though. But then again maybe thats all you want. The one at takakaira comes with adaptors, etc, etc. Well you got the info and know what you want so i'll leave it with you.

To me it looks like cold air induction piping. And it looks like its made of that aluminum stuff they use in air conditioning systems in builds.
By the way Mr 20Valve nice rocket cover.

If you run a foamy pod type filter make sure you use the supplied springs, metal backing, otherwise the filter will get sucked into the intake. How do I know, happened to me the other night whilst racing my cousin, I was in anticipation of fully stomping his little girly car into the ground, muhahah Then when I went to go my car started misfiring and wouldn't rev past 5700, what the??!?? I got beaten by a Micra, a piddly little Micra!! I will remedy the situation, I will not be beaten by a 1.3!!
by the way it was only on of them, I have four too. It was No.4 that collapsed because it has no spring, and like MR20V it's been cut down to fit behind the brake booster. Mine are green ones. Make sure you get red ones, red ones go faster.

Hey, anyone worried about cleaning a uni-filter, don't be, it's a piece of piss.
Grab a 2L bottle of turps, & pour about 1/2 into a big bowl or ice-cream container. Dunk the filter in & out, & really squash it up in the turps, give it a real good clean. Once the turps is all dirty, chuck it away & use almost all the rest & repeat the above proceedure (hey, turps is only about $2 for 2 litres!). Now it should be nice & clean, you just need to re-oil it. This can be the tricky part. I found the filter fix oil is way too thick, and can be diluted with turps quite a bit. The first time I re-oiled mine the oil was heaps thick & I put way too much on, & for ages afterwards the oil would collect at the bottom of the foam & drip down into the engine bay. I remembered when I went to buy the filter in Hornsby it they had no red ones in stock & grabed the first one off the production line. So becaust it had just been assembled, I watched the guy oil it. It looked & sounded like he just rinsed it out in water, the stuff was so thin. This is where I got the idea about diluting the oil.
Mix about equall parts oil & turps, about a teaspoon of each. Mix this in the big container then soak it up with the foam, the work it through & squeeze out all the excess. Check it a couple days after reinstalling it for oil underneath it, then you'll know if you've used too much.
Too easy.

The unifilter guy told me that the green filters are much densor then the red ones. The green foam is better for rally cars and when the filter is to be used externally - eg on motorbikes.

Dont use perspex it would melt in the hot engine bay.
I would defintly go for a foam filter over a cotton one the cotton can move around and leave holes for dirt to get in

Will it melt??? I didn't think it would as i've seen it done before... What about some crap that they sell at Clark Rubber??? Its about 1" thick foam glued to a piece of sheet metal... What would you say about that??? I want something that'll work and resist heat from the motor... I was told that the metal should reflect the heat from the engine and the foam should help the cooling side of things... Any ideas on this product or anything else???
