RTV silicone gasket compound.

This stuff needs to be applied like a replacement gasket though, so you'd still have to remove the manifold and clean/face the contact surfaces for it to work. You can't just squirt it on the outside. When you torque the surfaces together, don't torque them too tight or the compound is squeezed too thin and will fail.

I've got some and am in Melbourne too, come borrow a bit if you want.

RTV compound eh.

I was thinking of reusing the gaskit and just using some goo on each side to help it seal.

I live in St. Kilda and frequently commute through the north, north-east, east and south-eastern suburbs. Hit me with a PM if I can be of any help.

RTV is what is printed on my tube, dunno if that's a brand/trade mark or actually a technical description of the product. Asking for silicone gasket compound will yield results.

The product is designed to completely replace the original gasket. There'd be no benefit to using it in conjunction with the original gasket, especially if it is already broken.

Do better? How? By using magical think-power to fix your car sight-unseen? FFS if you want more info ask a specific question. What info do you need? We're not ESP-enabled here.

ok dude you are obviously psychotic, think ill pass on your offer. Rolling Eyes

I just wanted to hear from someone who had actually had experience with the exact problem I have. Cool

I checked these silicon compounds out and the max temperature they can handle is 315 deg. Confused

anyway anyone who wants to contribute something without the attitude is welcome. Smile

I've used this product to seal an exhaust leak before.

I used a silicone-based gasket compound to seal my turbine exhaust housing gasket. It lasted for long enough for me to save the $50 for a real gasket next time I had the turbo off (about 3 months). You may be able to find compounds with different heat resistance ratings, like heat-rated engine/exhaust/brake enamels.

If you're not happy with the durability of a silicone gasket compound you may need to consider other options - like a real gasket maybe.

Yeah I've always tended to use maniseal for the exhaust, it goes slightly nasty after it's been 'baked' for a while, but it does seem to do the job, at least for a while (I tend to get my turbo manifold glowing brightly quite regularly, that might be part of the issue!) Evil or Very Mad

I don't think that $45 is unreasonable for an exhaust gasket... if anything I'd have said that was a GOOD price Rolling Eyes
