bigport with ticking noise.

Just the usual bigport into ae86, had new rings and bearings installed, had the head serviced with shims redone but now 3000kms down the track there is a rather noisy ticking noise coming fom under the cam covers, more the exhaust cam than the inlet cam.
If you stick your head under the bonnet while she's idling you can just hear it, but when im accelerating its louder.
I thought i had a hole in the exhaust manifold because this is what the noise sounds like but ive double checked everything all the exhaust nuts are tight, and the gasket is in good condition.
Does this mean the shims werent done properly or they werent installed properly.

ive got the same issue, and someone else mentioned it a while back too...
i KNOW i set all my shim clearnces to EXACT spec. checked, double checked... etc etc...
and now the fuckers are rattling round like mad. got me beat how a newly rebuilt head OPENS up it shim tolerance, but meh, it happens...
rip the covers off and check them. probably only 2 or so will be out, but enough to make a racket...
cheers

Does the noise get less when the engine is warmed up ? If so, sounds like tolerances so do what Ed said.
