!#$^#! water pump!

well, after pulling off the intake piping, crank pulley, cam gears, and alternator, the water pump was finally removed - along with a chunk of coolant piping which would just disengage itself from the pump (where the temp sensor is).
and after doing all this, Ed and I found, to our great unhappiness, that the replacement pump I had, which I had been assured would fit a 1jz (and looking at the front bolt patterns, it certainly appeared so), was in fact critically different on the back half.
so another delay before picking up a proper 1jz pump from penrith toyota (thanks to Todd at penrith toyota).
GGGRRRRR
ps - if anyone wants a 2jz water pump, I'm selling one that's brand new, never been used, and has a couple of oily hand prints on it

Was it a 2JZ GTE pump or a GE pump?

I ran into this same problem when I tried to fit a 2JZ-GE pump. They look the same but they're not.

I've got 2 varieties of 2jz water pump now, one that fits and one that doesnt, so I'll try and get some digicam shots before I install it

My 2JZ-GTE (JZA80) water pump fitted fine. Just needed a new thermostat and seal. It sounds quieter and looks pimp! It came with a rear housing too.
