AE92 SX rear wheel bearings Thu, 29 January 2004 06:13 Go to next message
Hi all,
My rear wheel bearings are on the way out on the '90 Seca SX and I have been trying to find out how much it is going to cost me to replace them. I rang a local Toyota dealer today who proceeded to tell me that you couldn't get them...period.
WTF So cause my bearings are stuffed I'm supposed to scrap the car now am I cause I can't get any more? Note dripping sarcasm.

Is he full of crap or what?? Are there any aftermarket bearing joints that make em?
Mine can't be the only SX in the world that has worn out wheel bearings.

Any help appreciated
Binny

Toyota...what f..kn dickheads. Not saying I've actually bought any but I'm sure another bearing shop should have them. I got some front wheel bearings for my AE82 twin cam from Advance Bearings in Blacktown (Sydney) 9671 2322 (I see your from Newcastle..but they might send them for a small charge). The front wheel bearing kits cost me $55 each where other places were asking about $80 i think...or go into bearing shop up your way. They should have a book listing what each car has in it, you should get the seals with it I think. Good luck with it.

PS. If you can get the part no. from toyota (from when they used to have it in stock) a bearing shop may be able to match it easier i.e. if you're having trouble

Try calling Castle Hill Toyota. I have had great success with them. The number is (02) 9680 2111 and they ship anywhere. For future reference they also know everthing about the 4AGZE parts.

would he be wise to buy from toyota though? things like wheel beearings, struts etc are ususally less than half the toyota cost by getting a just as good non genuine part. I wouldnt just pay toyota what they ask..have the line ready "thanks for that, i'll get back to you" or similar

Yeah they can be very pricey. But when you need a part.....I accualy found them cheaper for my water pump than anywhere else $107.

What you can do it take the bearing to a place called CBC bearing, there located through out Sydney and Australia, Just look in the yellow pages. They should have the bearing your after, once you get it, take it to a mechanic or a place who can press it in for you.

i have a similar problem on my sx- but my car runs ae101 20v brakes. have not got around to changing it yet
from what i've found you have to buy the whole bearing/hub/stub assembly, and from toyota it's only about $600. from other bearing places you can find an equvelent (probably made by the seme people in a differnet box) for about $120. much easier to fit thsat way too
