I personally wouldn't pay anything as I don't believe they are suited for a performance car.
Maybe my dad would want one for his landcruiser...

if you did a search (any of you) you'd realise that more recent truck IC cores are actually really well flowing, and make suitable applications for cars.
"truck intercooler" doesn't always mean bad, but equally nor does it mean good

Back to the question, I'd propose $50 a square foot, would be around right, for cores without cracks and damage - it's going to cost you a fair bit more not only to cut, and clean, but also source tanks, and have them welded up.

firstly, if i did a search my sure id find next to nothing on truck intercoolers on these boards. secondly, i only said they dont flow aswell as the automotive counterparts. obvisously i didnt mean all of the standard ones but the better ones like vr4, gtr etc.
there are some good truck cores out there. garret, just to name one. however, dollar for dollar i believe your better off with a good standard variant or a custom made. obvisously this this also change depending on how cheaper you can get the core for.

Actually truck intercoolers have been discussed here before. It's a common misconception that truck intercoolers "don't flow", but that's nonsense; big trucks with 600hp and up flow a LOT of air, and the cooler needs to be built accordingly! Of course that's not to say there aren't any shitty truck intercoolers out there, because there are; you have to choose carefully but you can end up with a very good cooler for not much money.

well considering we sell truck intercoolers as new units for around $1600 if the only have cracked welds then u are probably up for alot of money but also if there is enough movement to crack the welds then u can almost be assured the core will be leaking near the headerplate. get iut tested in test tub before purchasing.

alot of ppl have seen that bit on the serious perf vid of the owner of micks metalcraft saying that trucks r only designed to rev to 4000 and such, WHAT THE FUCK HAS THAT GOT TO DO WITH IT.
it may rev 1/2 as much but the capacity of the engine is 10 times as much with a dirty big turbo hanging off it boosting to all buggery, so they would have to be a decent flow

How much does a custom cooler cost these days? anyone know?
I wouldn't have thought that a made up truck cooler would be all that cheaper. say $200 for a big core and $200 for end tanks or so. I wouldn't think a custom one would be too much more than that. Depends on brand of course
Personally, i think I will just get a custom PWR or ARE one but ARE didn't have very good customer service so probably PWR.

a query for people100/phil: are the 'charge coolers' sealed between header tanks/core with solder/weld? os something else?
is just that when i was at Western Suburbs Radiators (sumner park) they had this sample bit of a truck i/c's that used a push-on non-metal seal between header tanks and all the core pipes - i think it was a simple compression fit thing but obviously designed to suit the rigors of truck use,
if the i/cs use some non-welded jointing system then it make affect the price of header tank fitting - may it makes them easier to assemble - maybe custoim sizes are ruled out ... dunno ... food for thought anyway.
btw phil, what thickness is the core? if i could get a thin, wide unit at the front of the rA40 i'd still have room for a fan between it and all the other bloody heating devices down there (oil, a/c, water). and they're obviously an alloy core?
fwiw: i'm only cooling a max of 13psi boost so my main concern would be a serious drop in pressure over the i/c.
tia, charles.

just remember u can cut them down only one way
u cant cut then down between the end tanks section
so if theyre 4 ft wide where the fuk will they fit
also 4 to 6 inches thick is bloody thick
not many cars will have that much room
best option is to not fuk around as much and goto import wrecking place and get a 2nd hand one for under 500

LOL in your dreams! A large custom cooler typically costs upwards of $1k, or double that for a brand-name bolt-in unit. Why do you think people bother with truck intercoolers at all? Because it's heaps cheaper that's why!
