Changing Brake Pads

I think the time has come for me to change the brake pads in my 92 corolla. They are beginning to make a squealing noise and often are hesitant to bite firmly.
how difficult is it to change my own brake pads?? can i do it myself, with limited tools, or would i be best to take to it to a mechanic??
if i was to do it myself, what are a good recommended brand of pads that others have sucessfully used??

I would go for EBC. If you wan tbite these are the pads that will give you stopping power. they are not cheap, but is your life?

Get a mate to show you how. You should have all the tools you need at home. I only ever need a spanner but u might want to get hold of a G-clamp

I just changed my pads on my AE92 SX over the weekend. It only took about 3 hrs, and most of that was figuring out how to do it. Should get it down to about 30 - 45 min, which will be good at the track.
I fitted EBC Green Stuff's at the front and EBC street Kevlar's at the rear. Not cheap but should be worth it. Will fill in once I have run at Phillip Island in a few weeks.
The hardest part was putting the rear piston back in. It has to be turned. Needle nose pliers worked alright, just becareful as you could damage the seal.

Green - Road use with the occasional track use.
Black - More track use than road use.
Red - Only suited for track use.

Ive got green stuff on now but used to have bendix ultimate. Id say the bendix ultimate is almost as good but fade faster. the bendix also last alot longer.

I' say if you can afford it, go the EBC green stuff. If you want a cheaper around town pad, I'd go Ferodo Zeros as a bare minimun, or Ferodo metal kings.
I personaly wouldn't touch bendix with a barge pole. They may be the best known name in brakes, but thats about all! Craig.

I've found EBC Greenstuff to be pretty good for general street use, and they still seem to do a job after the disc is glowing red. Bendix standard are almost an absolute bloody hazard (tried them on a few different cars of peoples), generally one moderate stop from 120-130 km/h and by the time you get to 60 they're gone. The better Bendix pads (metal and ultimate) aren't so bad though, and a lot cheaper than the greenstuff. Then again, the greenstuff still work noticably better than anything Bendix make - so get the best you can afford without resorting to selling kidneys/lungs/other bodily parts you may be able to live without. Oh yeah, and braking is one thing that its a lot harder to get booked for going hard at, unlike accelerating... And can be fun too!

I ran down at Phillip Island on the weekend. The SX went really well. The motor did not miss a beat.
The EBC Green Stuffs were well worth the money, the brakes were awesome... I was able to pull up at the 50 mark at MG corner...
Got my time down to a 2:17, unofficial and a 2.19.23 official. They stopped timing after the 3 runs...
