Running rich ST162 Fri, 30 January 2004 02:49 Go to next message
More qs for the ST162 boys out there.

My car always seemed to run fairly rich. Then I took the engine apart and recoed it, at the same time I got my injectors cleaned and flow tested and they flow up to 10% better now, and two of the four have a perfect spray pattern (the other two were 'off' but only very minorly).

As a result - my car now runs even richer, it smells very strongly like petrol at the exhaust and it blows dark (carbon-colour) smoke when flat-out.

Now - my oxy sensor (EGO) doesn't look like it's in its prime. I'm under the impression that the car is using closed-lamdba loop style efi setup and would adjust the mixture according the oxy sensor reading???

Is it possible that my oxy sensor is stuffed or semi-stuffed and is in no fewer terms telling the ecu to run rich? Or is this kind of rich running normal (not likely). I know that this has probably fucked my cat to hell over the past few years but I'm going to replace the exhaust system anyway.

If the EGO was totally stuffed would the ecu report it when diagnosed?

Also - where can I get a new oxy sensor from - if this is the problem? Or are there other possiblities? Let me know!

Dude,

NGK make one. Check out the web site.
No idea of the cost.

Read this to find out if its working:

I'll have a look at both options and see what the cost is like!
